Kyshera are a 3 piece Alternative Rock band from South Wales, formed in 2005. The band was formed by James Kennedy to perform the music from his album 'Made in China'. Since then the band has had several line up changes & has been known for the high calibre of musicians that have passed through the band. Musically, the band describes its sound as 'Konic', meaning that it has no allegience to any style or scene, however, their sound can broadly be defined as ' Progressive Grunge'. Kyshera are known for their sometimes complex & challenging music aswell as their energetic live show & overtly topical lyrics, however, unusually for a progressive band, Kyshera also have a string of popularly accepted songs. Kyshera list their influences as including Frank Zappa, Melt Banana, Stravinsky, Pink Floyd, Squarepusher & Soundgarden (a full list can be found on the bands' ever growing 'Q&A' page). The meaning of the bands name is frequently refused an explanation, although they say there is one. Kyshera have a 'manifesto' ^[1] which can be found on their website among their frequent blogs about music, politics & the music industry.

In late 2002, James Kennedy released 'Made in China', a dense 12 track album that was written, performed & produced entirely by himself. After going straight to the top of the BBC's New Bands Chart, where it stayed for 6 weeks, the album picked up a score of acclaim from the national music press with the BBC calling it a work of 'warped genius'. The sudden flurry of attention soon brought about the threat of legal action from Classical Violinist Nigel Kennedy's management, demanding that the name 'Kennedy' not be used on the album cover (the album's original release was simply entitled 'Kennedy - Made in China') ^[2]. With this & the growing demand for the album to be played live, Kennedy began forming Kyshera in 2003.

Setting up the band was a lengthy process given the complex nature of some of the music & the band underwent several lineup changes before its first gig at the famous TJ's nightclub in Newport in 2005 ^[3]. As the band proceeded to gig heavily across the UK, the lineup continued to change until its longest lineup to date consisting of Carl Peel on Drums & Joe Cicero on Bass between 2006-2008. The band then developed a highly energetic live show, incorporating live electronics, stage mannequins & frequent destruction of gear, resulting on one occasion with James needing medical attention backstage due to severe loss of blood after landing on the drumkit at a festival. During this time the band released the Kyshera EP in 2006 & the Superstar Single in 2007 which included on the disc, a video shot by movie director Wes Anderson's editor, Ben Campbell. The band continued to perform at festivals ^[4] & many of the UK's most famous venues, ^[5] however, an attempt at perfoming a 12 hour, improvised gig for charity in central London was axed last minute due to venue complications. ^[6] The band have stated that this is something that will still take place although there are no plans as yet.

Positive reviews continued, including Mathew Priest (formally Drummer with UK band ' Dodgy') announcing the band in Rhythm Magazine as the UK's answer to Mars Volta, Tony Iommi (Guitarist with Black Sabbath) stating that the band was one of the best in the UK today & Huw Stephens from Radio 1 saying that Kyshera was 'one of the best things I've heard in ages'. However, lineup problems continued to haunt the band, holding up the recording of the long in the making 2nd album & bringing the band to a complete stand still between 2009 & 2010.

After growing despondant with the 'stop & start' nature of the band which Kennedy felt was becoming a distraction from creating new music, James decided to focus entirely on the recording of Paradigm, the 2nd Kyshera album which he had been trying to record for a long time. Like 'Made in China', 'Paradigm' was recorded & produced by Kennedy during January 2010 & is scheduled for release on July 12th 2010. During this time, James also began recording an album of completely electronic & experimental music alongside an album of acoustic songs. There are also plans to release an album of obscure ' cover' songs aswell as a re-release & complete re-recording of 'Made in China' which has since been taken out of distribution. James has stated that he would like to release all of these 4 albums over the next 2 years & has also stated that there are already several completed songs from the 3rd Kyshera album with others in the workings.

Kyshera resurfaced in March 2010 with its new lineup consisting of Matt Warr on Bass & Rhys Jones on Drums. The bands record label, Konic Records, has stated in a recent press release that they are in the process of booking live dates & that launch parties have been booked for Cardiff & London.
