Nowiki nowiki nowiki!

Probably, the thing I'd do with a town forum link is nowiki it (by doing <nowiki> and then </ and the word "nowiki"> to close it) , with an edit summary saying, "See talk page." The reason is not just, as you say, that it's a "joke" to residents, but that linking to an informational website and linking to a forum are orders of magnitude from each other. In other cities, there are links to locally-used portal pages (e.g. on the Vidalia, Georgia page, there is a link to a town search portal, and Carrboro, North Carolina has the same), but no links to forums. Forums are chat, not search/information. Putting a link to a portal in is in the service of "find out more about [Place]," but putting a link to a forum is "locals play here." I.e. one serves an encyclopedia's readers, and one serves locals. Wikipedia is for the former, not the latter. Anyway, that's what I'd do. Geogre 13:06, 10 December 2005 (UTC) reply

Stub sorting

Hello there. I noticed that you've got intrested in stub sorting. I'm sure what you do you do for the good of Wikipedia. There are also people who are devoting some of their time to this problem, Wikiproject Stub sorting. They try to keep an eye on all stub types and ensure they are as organized as possible. That's why any new stub template should be proposed before creation. However, not all templates are, so there's a page where discovered stub types are listed. You can see it's a busy page. There's also a page devoted to deletion and renaming of stub types, to ensure that unneded ones don't clutter up. So you can see it's a very busy Wikiproject.

I see that you decided to help by creating several new stub templates, for example {{ Real estate-stub}}. I'd like to ask you, have you checked the contents of Category:Economics and finance stubs to move all suitable stubs to this new type? If not, then someone will have to do that for you, and I'm not sure it will happen any time soon. Futhermore, this stub type will be deleted if it doesn't collect 60 articles.

Next, there is a commotion on WP:SFD regarding New Hampshire redirects. I'm pretty sure that WP:WSS and WP:NH share one objective - that is, doing something to improve articles about New Hampshire (although WP:WSS will do it in a different manner, by just marking all suitable articles with {{ NewHampshire-stub}}). Please understand that what you do is just adding work to WP:SFD (regardless of the outcome).

Bottom line: I really appreciate your desire to help with the stub sorting, but since you're helping, could you please do it in a way that will hurt no one? It only takes proposing stub templates before creation. Conscious 08:53, 11 December 2005 (UTC) reply

Nobody's under any obligation to propose templates. While members of the Stub sorting organization might prefer that, I don't really feel that its fair to restrict creation of stub templates in such a way. A useful stub is a useful stub, whether it has 5 articles or 500 articles in it, the goal is to organize stub articles with as much precision as possible, so that users who are interested in a topic may easily find articles in that topic that exist and are in need of improvement. Your efforts at stub sorting should be to find those stub templates and accurately sort them, and any deletion discussions over a template should focus on the usefulness of the stub in the purpose I just named, not on whether certain criteria were followed with the creation of the stub, or on some arbitrary metric of how many stub articles are in a given stub category. After all, the goal is not to have many stub articles in a given category, because the stub has successfully led interested contributors to articles that have subsequently been improved beyond the stub level. Also, your sentence I'm not sure what you do for the good of Wikipedia could be better phrased. Lastly, you ask I'd like to ask you, have you checked the contents of Category:Economics and finance stubs to move all suitable stubs to this new type? If not, then someone will have to do that for you, and I'm not sure it will happen any time soon. I'm not personally sure what needs to be moved where, but can you explain why someone will have to do this for Karmafist, as I don't understand why Karmafist can't take care of this himself. Best regards, Ëvilphoenix Burn! 16:06, 11 December 2005 (UTC) reply
You misunderstood me, Ëvilphoenix, I'd be pretty satisfied if karmafist moved all real estate articles from Category:Economics and finance stubs to Category:Real estate stubs. Also, my language skills may not be perfect, but still I'd like to ask you not to alter what I've written. As for why there is a stub threshold, and why stub types should be proposed, you'd better asked at WP:WSS (or just read what the project pages say). If you want to change the situation, it would be the right place to go. Conscious 16:29, 11 December 2005 (UTC) reply
I thought that your double use of you do was a typo, so I removed it. It's my understanding that it's reasonably ok to correct typos in other peoples comments, it is when the meaning is altered that there is a problem. However, if it bothers you, I will respect that. That being said, it was also not my intention to alter your meaning, but as Ive been sitting here re-reading, I just now realized I had misread what you wrote, and had therefore grossly misinterpreted your meaning. My apologies. However, I still maintain that a WikiProject does not neccessarily have jurisdiction over stub creation, but I will be happy to review those pages. Best regards, Ëvilphoenix Burn! 22:15, 11 December 2005 (UTC) reply

It's good you've mentioned WP:POINT. It says, among other things:

  • If you wish to change an existing procedure or guideline...
    • do set up a discussion page and try to establish consensus
    • don't push the existing rule to its limits in attempt to prove it wrong, nor nominate the existing rule for deletion

If I understand you right, you're concerned with the intuitiveness of WP:WSS/NG, but more significantly with the guideline of stub template proposal and approval. So why don't you set up a discussion on these topics, and why do you go for a confrontation instead?

As for WP:OWN, WP:WSS doesn't seem to control or try to control any article (as far as I can see). I can say that the project wants to have all stub templates under control, but that's what the project was designed for.

Let me also point you one guideline, WP:STUB. You seem to have violated it several times. Again, instead of stating you disagree with it (because you think the system is too bureaucratic or whatever), why don't you suggest a change to it?

Millwall are a working class team, who play in Bermondsey, with just ordinary working class fans. We are from the "wrong" part of London, and because of that, ev'ryone hates us, and we hate them back, for hating us- and they say it's only a game! We sing "We hate West Ham", West Ham United irrespective of who we play-this is all rooted in the Millwall dock strike of 1899. • Wotcha mate! Spot on about "The Scum", what a bunch of tossers eh? They don't even know why they hate us! General strike? What a giggle. The Millwall dock strike was broken by the use of Scottish black legs brought down to London by C & E Morton, a Scottish owned food firm, who then went on to employ some of the strike breakers, three of whom were footballers who went on to play for Millwall. I don't know what effect that had on their dopey iron works and those songs, Blowing Bubbles? Who is Bubbles? He must be fed up with it by now! Our song about them is "Chim-Chiminey Chim, Chim, Charoo, we hate those bastards in Claret and Blue!" We have an official club song called "Let Em Come" which is great but goes on for about a fortnight. The one we sing most is, (to the tune of Sailing) "No one likes us, no one likes us, no one likes us we don't care - We are Millwall, super Millwall, we are Millwall from the Den!"

I would say that the average Englishman knows where Boston is but not much else. We were taught about the Tea Party etc. but mostly New York is pushed down our throats night, noon and morning. It seems to me to be nothing more than the West End of London, OK if you've got loads of money! We will definitely need a cheer from you this Saturday at 3.00 pm GMT. We are rooted to the bottom of the table and if the new Chairman does't chuck some money in soon we'll get relegated to division 1! Hope your voice is loud enough to carry accross the Atlantic. While on the topic of your candidacy page, I'd like to apologise for what my "rule on the behaviour of not only one party involved, but all of them." question led to. I already said [2], I don't think CBDunkerson did anything wrong in the Arbitration case of Pigsonthewing. Yes, quite some of his evidence had to do with you. You were a directly involved party. When evidence regarding Pigsonthewing was presented, you could be involved. When you refered to Pigsonthewing/Andy, it might have been relevant to ascertain his motives/motivations. From my point of view, CBDunkerson tried to balance the evidence to present a more complete picture, while Pigsonthewing was evidently unwilling to do so. I wouldn't call you a liar (your last sentence here), because that's not the kind of person I am and because I don't think you're that's the kind of person you are. But sometimes things aren't as easiliy divided between true and false, which is where a word like "assume" comes into a phrase (or policy) like Assume Good Faith. I think you are in favour of a more - what's a good word? fierce? pro-active? take charge? - ArbCom, which may be a good thing, but if it happens, the ArbCom will still have to consider all the sides of an issue. I expect, such an ArbCom would not have handled Pigsonthewings case as kindly as they have concerning you. Perhaps you and CBDunkerson should consider trying to talk things out? Perhaps on a more suitable page like your own talk pages (User_talk:Karmafist and User_talk:CBDunkerson)? Thank you for your attention. 131.155.229.224 13:52, 14 December 2005 (UTC) reply

  • Most people in England feel the same way about Man. U. as you feel about the Yankees. We however treat them like a small war in a foriegn country. Thanks for the info on your "Pats", great game, big hard geezers or wot? Glad they heard my war cry! All the best Lion King 22:40, 11 December 2005 (UTC) reply

Just holler "Come on you Lions!" at 3.00 pm OK? Best wishes Lion King 20:07, 12 December 2005 (UTC) reply

Thanks for the Warm Welcome

Thank you, Karmafist, for the warm welcome. I've been a user of Wikipedia for quite some time. Until recently I only rarely contributed to Wikipedia. However, I have been highly active on Wikisource for some time now [1].

I have tasked myself with expanding upon, and cleaning-up the Sanhedrin article. This is especially true of proper source-referencing, which the article lacks. But, I'm in the process of correcting that! :-) Given that you are miltilingual, could you take a look at this article's non-english counterparts and pass me a sumation of information they contain that the English language article lacks, or outright contradicts? I hope that is not too much to ask.

Thank You,

Thanks for the new map, I think that article is on the verge of being featured, and your map pushed it a bit closer to making it. Just curious, what was your method of making it? GIS or just some graphic arts program?

I go to the United States Census Cartographic Boundaries page and download the county and census border data. I then use TextPad to convert the data into an SVG format, which I edit in Illustrator, saving to PNG format. Bastique 14:42, 12 December 2005 (UTC) reply

Candidacy page

I know how you feel, I've had my own filled with various personal attacks loosely disguised as "questions". I think the best thing to do is, if at all possible, to simply ignore your attackers, don't respond. Jayjg (talk) 22:05, 12 December 2005 (UTC) reply

I'm taking this to arbitration. You're block is completely illegitimate. No. You've got it wrong and you just showed you dont even understand what the dispute is about. The content dispute was a separate issue. Bitola's removal of the violence was reverted by multiple users. He then posted a copyvio from the site he claims I posted a copyvio. Then he posted a badly worded version of the same copyvio. The dispute - right now - is over how badly written his posts are. 165.247.82.173 03:54, 13 December 2005 (UTC) reply

Noting blocks

Hi Karmafist — I guess I ought to check the block log more religiously, but it would be a great help if you could comment on the talk page of the person you're blocking when you block them. I saw Freestylefrappe's violation at 3RR, saw no one had replied, saw no one had posted a message on his talk page, and so blocked him myself. I've since corrected my mistake and re-set my timer to expire when yours does, but it probably couldn't hurt in general to leave an explicit note on the Talk page.
