Thanks for your help on the Medill School of Journalism article. Conflict of interest disclosure: I am a grad of NU Engineering school, took one course in Medill. I am not a lawyer but have learned Wikipedia conventions over the years (often the hard way). To answer your question, the fact that Medill is part of NU just means that Medill should be free to use material copyrighted by the university. Wikipedia is not a publication of Medill, so cannot generally use copyright material, except by using a fair use rationale. Someone uploaded a Medill logo and gave the rationale for that one. (lately I uploaded the Engineering school one for that article.) Generally a copyrighted logo is only be used in the article about the entity that it describes, not related ones. The rationale for the NU is for NU only. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for the policy.
Now one solution for this would be to determine if the logo is not really copyrighted. For example, I think if there is proof of being published before 1923. But in general, I there are more important issues that need to be worked on first, such as using full citations with authors and dates instead of raw links. This is supposed to be an encyclopedia and not a blog. I am also working on some other style issues on it and related articles.
Now if you are a "local", another good need would be a picture of the new McCormick center. Also I am still curious if and when the first name "Joseph" was dropped? I hate to admit I had no idea who the schools were named for until I worked on the related Wikipedia articles!
