List of famous people per cities

Regarding all these lists of famous people from Montreal. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Listcruft and consider the wisdom of creating all these lists. Though the page is an essay, not policy, it has some good points that list creators ought to consider, imho. -- Kchase02 ( T, C, e) 08:35, 22 May 2006 (UTC) reply

Is that better? It certainly is needed. Jesus of montreal 14:06, 22 May 2006 (UTC) reply
I didn't mean to put myself in a position of authority wherein I would approve your edits. That being said, it does look better. Thanks. -- Kchase02 ( T, C, e) 18:01, 22 May 2006 (UTC) reply

Please stop linking to Notable Persons from other Canadian cities. It now redirects to the "Lists of Canadian people" category, which is listed as a category on these city pages. Please also realise that pages are not subcategories of each other; only categories can be subcategories of one another. -- Kmsiever 02:25, 23 May 2006 (UTC) reply

Please see Wikipedia:Categorization for more information on how to create categories.-- Kmsiever 02:43, 23 May 2006 (UTC) reply

Please put msgs on my talk page, not my user page. Thanks. I am not from Montreal. I am from Missouri. I'm not going to "vote" or otherwise involve myself in the discussion. As to the famous people in Montreal who want their own category, I suggest that violates the spirit of Wikipedia:Autobiography and is not a good point for argument. How else could you justify creating a list of famous Montrealers? I suggest consultation of Wikipedia:Lists (stand-alone lists). Please respond on your own talk page and I'll read it here. -- Kchase02 ( T, C, e) 03:21, 23 May 2006 (UTC) reply

Jesus of montreal 03:04, 23 May 2006 (UTC) are you even from Montréal? I believe the category of famous Montrealers by profession is needed. Another user keeps deleting it someone from Lethbridge, Alberta, by the name of Kim Siever. Do I get your vote for creating such a category? There are many people in Montréal that want it, including some of the famous people of Montréal themselves.

So do I have your vote? Kenneth

Hello to the person from Missouri( T and to the person from Lethbridge, Alberta, -- Kmsiever. I do not mean that famous people in Montréal want their own category. I mean that they agreed that there should be a category for profession's, i.e. a category for politicians of Montréal, athletes in sports figures of Montréal, actors and actresses of Montréal, philosophers of Montréal, etc. etc. There is nothing wrong with having this in addition to a list of famous Montrealers by alphabetical order. Categorizing famous Montrealers by their profession enables people to look specifically for an athlete, or a politician, or businessperson, etc. etc. It's a lot easier then searching for someone by alphabetical order. If I want a look at the athletes that have come out of Montréal. I just click on athletes in sports figures of Montréal. I think, Calgary has something similar to that without having any alphabetical orders.

By the way since you are from Missouri, have you ever been to Montréal? Did you like it? Why are you so interested in Montréal? I did not know anybody was interested in Montréal, outside of Canada.

What about you, Kim the person in Lethbridge, Alberta?

I think List of famous Montrealers is sufficient. If you want to sort that page by profession, then I'd agree that's OK, but creating a different wikipedia page for each profession of famous people from Montreal makes it a pain to navigate. Conversely, creating different sections on the same page is a good idea. List of notable Calgarians seems like a good guide to me. It might help to read Wikipedia:Categorization and Wikipedia:Lists (stand-alone lists) several times to make sure you understand the difference between them.
Please put any response here, on your own talk page. I have the page tagged and will be notified if it changes. Thanks. -- Kchase02 ( T, C, e) 20:39, 23 May 2006 (UTC) reply
The NYC people article is another good example. Actually, Jesus of montreal, do you have an example of another city that follows the same pattern as you are trying to implement? -- Kmsiever 22:16, 23 May 2006 (UTC) reply
