A doubt regarding user restrictions

-- IHDP 21:31, 19 December 2006 (UTC) reply

This site is for researchers from "social science and co.". So i would like to restrict the users who want to see and modify the content preferably modify the content (other than WIKI administrators - such that it is not common to change some body). Can any body suggest me how to create this type of restriction

Help's arrived! Which site do you refer to? Yuser 31415 ( Review me!) 22:19, 19 December 2006 (UTC) reply

My user page. Only some peopel from other parts of world should be able acess and modify the content

No way. Just put your userpage to watchlist and revert changes. Userpages are rarely vandalized. ≈Tulkolahten≈ ≈talk≈ 11:29, 2 January 2007 (UTC) reply
That type of restriction isn't possible on Wikipedia. Anyone, anywhere in the world, can edit the page. You should be the only one using your account, but anyone technically can edit your user page. Whether or not they should depends on intent. If someone makes non-constructive edits to your page that would be considered vandalism and could get them blocked from editing. As far as a pre-emptive restriction to allow only certain people to edit it, that isn't an option available in the software. SWAdair | Talk 11:35, 2 January 2007 (UTC) reply

That's a different wiki but it looks like it operates pretty much the same way as here. Notice in the upper right hand part of the screen on that page, where it says "Create an account or login" -- that's where you need to click. It will take you here.
