I am looking for someone in the Dallas area (Plano specifically) to guide me in making an entry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HornToadXi ( talk • contribs)
I would like to submit an entry about Judge John Charles Watrous, briefly attorney general for the Republic of Texas in President Lamar's cabinet and the 1st and only federal judge for the (now defunct) Federal District of Texas. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HornToadXi ( talk • contribs)
My primary source of information is: Hawkins, Wallace. THE CASE OF JOHN C. WATROUS, UNITED STATES JUDGE FOR TEXAS: A POLITICAL STORY OF HIGH CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS. Dallas, University Press in Dallas, 1950
This book is heavily referenced throughout. HornToadXi ( talk) 23:04, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
References include the following:
Chapter 1 - 7. Act of December 18, 1812, in United States Statutes at Large, II, 788; United States Code Annotated, Title 28, secs. 134, 454.
Chapter 2 - 12. History of Alabama and Dictionary of Alabama Biography, IV; Ed Lyman, "Brief History of Montevallo" (Thesis, Alabama College, 1908);Writings of Sam Houston VII, 297-300;Reply of Judge John C. Watrous to the Speech of Senator Houston p. 9;Report 540 p. 335.
Chapter 3 - 23. Deed Records of Travis County, Texas, Book A, p. 371.
etc. HornToadXi ( talk) 11:11, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Will do. Thank you. HornToadXi ( talk) 13:40, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

How do I start a page in the sandbox? When I used the link there is already something in there. HornToadXi ( talk) 13:48, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
OK, I've made a start. How do I put "/John Charles Watrous" into the heading. Also, my first reference is to the book by Walace, but the 2nd and 3rd are the references Walace uses in the same book. Is this correct or do I only reference the book itself? HornToadXi ( talk) 15:58, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, I'm confused. I guess I don't understand the use of various types of pages or what they are. I'll come back to all this after I clear my head. Thanks for your help. HornToadXi ( talk) 18:46, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Comment: since you've started your article on your "userpage" rather than on a user-space sandbox page. I took the liberty to move your work to User:HornToadXi/John Charles Watrous where you can continue working on it. As for the references issue, you should cite the book itself unless you are going to personally verify his citations. Jaakobou Chalk Talk 19:45, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
