Conflict of Interest regarding Bruno Serato

It appears that you have an extensive and undeclared conflict of interest regarding Bruno Serato. You must disclose any professional or personal relationship you have with the subject as well as whether or not you are an employee or receive any renumeration from the subject in any way.

In case this isn't clear, being a "Board Member at Large" of a charity run by the subject counts.

Awaiting your response! -- Jorm ( talk) 02:27, 2 November 2019 (UTC) reply

Jorm, thank you for your profound interest in the great work Mr. Serato and Caterina's Club do. I am proud to say I am a Board Member of Caterina's Club. I do not receive any compensation whatsoever for my position. I am not an employee of Mr. Serato or any entity controlled by or associated with him. I was not asked to contribute to Mr. Serato's page by anyone. Though it is clear I have an interest in the work Mr. Serato does, I do not believe being interested in a topic in any way changes the veracity of what was posted. The links to third party news sources (including OC Register, CBS, ABC7, OC Catholic) are in no way, shape, or form created by me. The details in the links on Mr. Serato's page evidence facts that are mostly statistical in nature - such as the number of kids fed for free every night (5,055) and the fact he has been knighted twice - and are not based on opinions (such as "I think I am more notable than this individual"). I am uncertain how any bias would influence the data evidenced by these links. -- HeikkiVeharanta ( talk) 04:24, 2 November 2019 (UTC) reply
Okay, great! Glad that we've got that settled! You have a conflict of interest regarding the subject. I assume that you understand what this means - having a conflict of interest - and why you shouldn't be editing articles about the subjects that you have a conflict of interest in? It's similar to how businesses and charities operate. You may want to read about how conflicts of interest work on the English Wikipedia.
Since you've declared your conflict of interest, I assume that you have read the above, and can therefore acknowledge the following, according to WP:COIEDIT:
Editors with a COI should follow Wikipedia policies and best practices scrupulously:
  • you should disclose your COI when involved with affected articles;
  • you are strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly;
  • you may propose changes on talk pages (by using the {{ request edit}} template), or by posting a note at the COI noticeboard, so that they can be peer reviewed;
  • you should put new articles through the Articles for Creation (AfC) process instead of creating them directly;
  • you should not act as a reviewer of affected article(s) at AfC, new pages patrol or elsewhere;
  • you should respect other editors by keeping discussions concise.
I personally feel that you can (and should) continue engaging in the deletion discussion (others may disagree), but you should not edit the article going forward. You may feel free to suggest edits on the talk page (assuming the article survives the deletion review process).
Regarding your feelings about bias: To be blunt, Wikipedia doesn't care a dot about your feelings about bias. Not one whit. You have a conflict of interest and you should stay away from the topic. Your opinions about how sources treat the topic are not relevant; we have developed numerous policies about what is and is not reliable and notable. I do not currently believe that your subject is notable. I am willing to be convinced otherwise but as it sits now there is not enough reliable and independent coverage of the subject to be found.
Regarding my interest in Mr. Serato: I have none whatsoever. I do, however, have a vested interest in this project, Wikipedia, and I want it to be the best it can be. Sometimes this means removing things that shouldn't be here. That said, I have an interest in you, personally, in that I am impressed with your edits from a technical standpoint and I think you could become a fruitful, productive editor (in other areas) as you've shown no small amount of skill in the work you did on the article, and I hope you continue to work with Wikipedia, though in areas that you do not have a conflict of interest.
I hope this helps! See you around.-- Jorm ( talk) 04:48, 2 November 2019 (UTC) reply
