There are currently challenges made by the same three people, all of whom will recieve this message, on Thoth, Hermeticism, Hermetism, Cult of Hermes, Mental Gender, and Hermeticism and other thought systems all at the same time. Some people actually work for a living and have a life outside of Wikipedia. If you want to make challenges, you are free to do so. But when you know that they are all against the same person, have a little bit of courtesy and challenge them one or two at a time, and allow appropriate time for someone to actually do something about it. I am not a superhuman, and blitzkrieging me with all these challenges at once is unrealistic and shady. Try to have some patience and actually make it possible for me to work with you rather than trying to send me on the defensive and effectively make me leave Wikipedia. If this continues, I will have to make this an issue through RfC, Administrator's noticeboard, or Arbitration Committee. Try to use your time actually find sources to contradict mine if you feel that you have too much free time to wait around for me to be able to act on any given article.

Dear Hanuman Das,
Yes, I am a newcomer here, and haven't yet gotten the hang of things. The vast majority of the listings I've put up have been of published authors, or in some cases recording artists who have IMO made a significant contribution to their genre'. I realize I haven't documented everything I've posted, and I'm slowly going back over my listings and improving them as I learn.
I have no objection if the listing for Mike Ingalls gets bumped. I hope LaSara Firefox isn't bumped since she is published, but if she is, I only listed it because she is on my list; if she doesn't get a listing by my efforts, so be it. She has no idea I've put it up, anyway; in fact, hardly any of these folks do. I see someone not only accepted Patricia Telesco, but put up a much more complete listing than mine. That's as it should be.
I'm pretty much finished with submissions at this point, just going over some of the ones I or others have posted of folks I admire and adding a book, CD or tape I know they did when I see one missing. I occasionally find errors, like Stephen Kent being listed as being born in South Africa, and I correct them when I do.
This isn't something I'm doing as self-promotion or some kind of campaign. I've even listed info on people who passed away, like Baba Raul Canizares, or who haven't been at any of our events for 20 years, like Margot Adler. I'm just a Virgo with a lot of handy (somewhat specialized) data, and I'm happy to see it applied to a use that might serve someone.
Thanks for your comments. I will try to find the time to get all my listings either up to snuff or delete them if necessary. I'll get better at this in time, so have patience. And real soon my listings will become pretty rare, since I've already done most of the ones I have that even I think are worthy of it.
Ad Astra, Rosencomet Rosencomet 19:04, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Dear Hanuman,
I just saw the additional notes you sent. I'm sorry about the "minor edit" thing. You are right; I checked that when I was just doing something minor, then forgot I had done so when I noticed that none of Krassner's recorded material was listed. I should have unchecked the box before I sent the page. My bad.
Although I think an appearance as a speaker at these events is an important credit for many of these folks, I intend to go back and delete a lot of the "run by ACE" mention since I see how that could be considered spam. One exception might be if the speaker was in the Consciousness Exploration field, like a psychologist author, but it shouldn't be a habitual thing, so I'm going to review my stuff.
I'm not sure about the "book reference" vs "web reference" thing. The info I added to Krassner's bio was for a book and some recordings I have seen in circulation myself (most of which I own), and I was at the appearance at the Rock & Roll Hall with Wavy Gravy. His Grammy nomination is on record.
Ad Astra, Rosencomet Rosencomet 19:21, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Dear Hanuman,
I'm confused about how to verify certain things, or provide "citations". Not everything is in a book. For instance, I've listed past speakers at the Starwood Festival, and been asked for a citation. Do I refer to the program of the event and list the particular year... for 25 years worth of booklets? Or to the Starwood website that has the schedules posted from the past? Or what?
Also, I mentioned some things about the constitution of the attendees; for instance, that many of them also frequent events like Burning Man and Grateful Dead concerts. Exactly how am I supposed to provide a citation? Do I get affadavits from some number of attendees, or quote the director or head of registration saying this is so, or what? Does it matter if this person was asked this particular question by an interviewer who printed it somewhere? Does that make it more true than if I ask him?
I also want to address the "importance" issue. Anyone in the American Neo-Pagan community or the Consciousness Exploration community can attest to the fact that Starwood is a major event. But when I tried to express why, the piece was called a "puff piece" and advertising. Well, maybe so... I wouldn't have added that paragraph if not for the "importance" challenge, but I'm not sure how to describe an event so its importance is evident without complimenting it and sounding like I'm advertising it.
Now, I could list a bunch of quotes I have on record from people like Paul Krassner, Patricia Monaghan, Stanley Krippner and Isaac Bonewits about Starwood, but since they've been at the event someone might say they aren't objective. But if they, or the authors of books that mention Starwood, weren't there, of what value is their opinion or report?
In fact, I've seen a couple challenges popping up that seem to imply that just having a link to Starwood, WinterStar or ACE is enough of a reason to question the listing. I don't see the fairness in that, nor do I see similar treatment accorded other listings just based on links. Of course, I'm new around here; maybe it's common.
I'm having similar problems with the listings I've put up on the directors of the Association for Consciousness Exploration, Jeff Rosenbaum and Joseph Rothenberg, and authors like Ian Corrigan. I keep trying to edit and beef them up, but I'm afraid I won't be able to meet the 5 day deadline that seems to be associated with these proposed deletions. I admit, as I did with Mike Ingalls, that Joseph Rothenberg may not have enough credits to remain (not being published, for instance), but I think the other two should. But I don't know what reaction, if any, my additions have from those that challenged in the first place.
Can you give me some practical guidance?
Ad Astra, Rosencomet Rosencomet 15:21, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Dear Hanuman,
Thanks for your response. I am not 999. Someone else asked me if I was. If he altered any of my listings, he did it on his own.
I don't think I posted the Brushwood Folklore Center listing, just edited it. But I'm not connected to them, and if either my dits or the listing itself doesn't stand, so be it.
I will add info about articles and books mentioning the Starwood Festival, and WinterStar if I can find some. I already did for Jeff Rosenbaum, which I hope will help. If Joseph Rothenberg's doesn't stand, again, so be it. Unless someone else can come up with something he's published or other important credits, I can understand the notability issue.
I hope Ian Corrigan's stands, though. He's an important author and organizer in the Druidic and Celtic Spirituality fields, and I know The Portal Book sold thousands through regular New Age and Magical distributors like New Leaf, Abyss, and Sacred Spirit Products, as has his tapes and CD. Its first edition may have been self-published, but not the last two or three. I've alerted him about this, and asked him for any credits I don't have.
I guess I'll just have to deal with the rest on a one-to-one basis. I just hope I'll have the time before someone deletes them. I only posted them because I considered them important; none of them work for me, or I for them.
