I do not recall an IBM machine that printed on cards using an electric typewriter. Do you recall what machine you used? We had an alphabetic interpreter that would print 60 columns of the card on the card (if you needed all 80, you had to run the cards through it twice using 2 different plugboards), it definitely was not using a typewriter mechanism.
