I am interested in getting Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri promoted from Start Class to C Class in a couple of months or so. Any insight you could give me into the process would be greatly appreciated, especially issues that need to be addressed. Thank you. Vyeh ( talk) 13:30, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
I am still going through sources. I have just used the Shah2000 source to give Storyline and Gameplay references. In terms of the 5 step plan you had outlined:
If you want to copy edit, I think it would be best to focus your attention on the introductory, Storyline, Gameplay and Reception sections. The other sections still need work. Once we finish the current round, I suspect that there will be a lot of clean-up for the article to reach B-class. I have been in the edit screen and I think there is a lot of work to conform it to MoS. As you look at the article, do you see any gaps in coverage? If I have some idea of additional areas of content you think would be helpful, I can keep a lookout for those areas as I go through the sources.
Finally, I want to thank you for all of your very helpful advice. Vyeh ( talk) 23:10, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Examples of recurring disputes to watch out for:
Common solutions to these common problems

The box on the right came from the "Edit Wars" section of the writing guide for video game articles. Some people were upset that the external link to their fansite was deleted. However, one of them made a constructive suggestion:
I think we can argue that WPC contains information relevant to an encyclopaedic understanding of the topic of SMAC. The trick is to make the article discuss something that we're a part of.
For example, you could add a section about the continued development of the game and talk about the unofficial patch and about the GotMs. A section on multiplayer gaming could mention the lack of an in game match-making facility and talk about CMNs (a topic that certainly should be covered in an encyclopaedia, it's an intriguing and quite unusual setup).
I was hoping you might be able to point me to some videogame GA/FA where the online fan community of a game was discussed. In addition to WPC, there are three major English speaking fansites, one German site and one Polish site.
Another issue is how to properly cite the game manual (there is a pdf available here). Previous editors have been using the manual writer Chris McCubbin as the author. This is the way it has been cited" {{Cite book | last =McCubbin | first = Chris | title = Sid Meier's Alpha Centuari (Game Manual) | publisher = Firaxis Games | year = 1999 | url = }}. "There is no ISBN number. On the back cover at the bottom is "EA 1050905" which looks like a part number from the publisher Electronic Arts. The reason I am concerned at this point is that Brian Reynolds has a signed and dated Designer's Notes from pages 236-244, which will be very useful in fleshing out the Development section. I would like to use a short citation of the form "Reynold (1998)." In addition, I think it would be useful to link to the pdf file (if you don't like the WPC link in a GA article, it is also available at replacementdocs). BTW, the expansion manual is also available at replacementdocs (it is also on the CD of the game). There are Designer Notes signed by Tim Train and dated August 25, 1999.
I am thinking it might be a good idea to add the following external link
We have eliminated a lot of game cruft so I think this would help in the encyclopedic understanding of the subject. I checked and it seems that Gamespot is a RS. Talking about external links, please be aware that we are linking to a webarchive for the official site. For reasons known only to Firaxis, they disabled the link from the sales page to the official site a couple of years ago and it seems that you can no longer access a section of it (I was able to do so last month). So is it still an official site if it isn't live anymore?
I am repeating these comments from the talk page of the article for your information (and to get feedback if you have an issue with any of them):
As always, I appreciate the value of your advice and recognize your semi-retired status. There is no hurry with any of these questions. Vyeh ( talk) 11:38, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
I notice that you dug up some outstanding X-Men anthology articles from IGN and Game Informer (which I don't have the issue for). Nomader ( Talk) 07:17, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the offer, Guy, and I'll happily take you up on it.
What you want is a template that allows an editor to fill in parameters and produce a consistent output for each different game, I think.
Have a look at List of Buso Renkin episodes. They have used a standard wikitable, but after the header row, they use a template {{ Japanese episode list}} to make each row.
I'm not suggesting scrapping {{ VGtitle}} as it's useful for creating a single, stand-alone item. Rather, I'd suggest you make a cut-down version without the table start and end to make just a table row - call it VGrow or something similar if you will. Then you could use it inside a standard wikitable with a suitable header for each game's entry. Does that make sense?
It would have the beautiful advantage that it would only be necessary to tweak the template once to add row headers and their scope to gain accessibility. I know you would have to go around adding standard wikitable start, headers, and end in each article, but the advantage in flexibility and standardisation to a wikitable – as well as the accessibility gains – would be significant. I showed links on the talk page to videos of several games which I feel invalidate said claimed reference on the grounds of reliability, and the other author feels they don't and that only published secondary references can be used to invalidate said claims. I.E. he feels a direct video showing Lunar Lander's side scrolling can not be used in a discussion to illustrate that it has side scrolling and therefore invalidate the claim of Defender being the first. -- Marty Goldberg ( talk) 10:02, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
I have done a lot of work since the 2nd person to do the A-class assement has come along. If you can, please give the article a fresh look before making any final decisions. 陣 内 Jinnai 22:47, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Is the review for Taito's Time Gal by Todd Ciolek of Game Set Watch acceptable for the "Development" section in Wikipedia's standards? I believe it isn't, because it isn't an interview with Time Gal's staff. Parrothead1983 ( talk) 04:12, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

There is a discussion going on here intended to rename the Doctor Robotnik article to the Dr. Eggman article.-- Sexy Kick 23:31, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Since there's dispute over ALttP's ability to reach FA without FS content, I think the best course of action is to, rather than strengthen the split article, to make the original article that much better than it is now, thereby making it too large to adequately combine the two articles. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Not sure if you've seen it, but no. 213 (January 2011) has a cover story (p42-51) on Lara Croft (she looks like she's been through the ringer... and they're axing the models). I can shoot you some scans if you want. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs( talk) 00:54, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
I saw your note on Vyeh's talk page and responded there, but since you might not have seen that I'm posting a note here.
Vyeh hasn't been on in a couple months, so I'm finishing the article. I don't know exactly which sections he thought needed copyediting, but I've noticed the development section is a tad choppy. Other then that, could you tell me if you think the article is ready to be nominated for GA-status? I haven't done this before, so I'd like your opinion. The dispute about romanizations for katakana words of non-Japanese origin has now entered mediation and is currently being talked about in this discussion page section. If you still wish to participate, please join the discussion. Thank you. Prime Blue ( talk) 14:08, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
