More info please

You added some new infoboxes to some GWOT captives' articles. Can you let me know where interested wikipedians could learn about these inforboxes, and participate in the discussion of what fields they should contain?

I am a bit concerned about the "aliases" field.

  • When a captive, like Guantanamo captive 1095, who the US calls "Jumma Jan" tells his Tribunal he has never heard of "Jumma Jan" and that he is really "Zain Al Abedin" does that make one of those names an "alias"? And, if so, which one?
  • There are other strange anomalies among the naming of the GWOT captives, and I would really like to have some input on them, prior to more inforboxes being placed.

SLA Infobox

Esemono, three items in the new infobox strike me as problematic: (1) Listing the SLA's "Role" as "Guerilla Warfare," (2) including a listing for "Battles/Wars," and (3) omitting the Hearst kidnapping. I would list the SLA's role as "Armed Political Action," and replace "Battles/Wars" with "Activities," and include the Hearst kidnapping. It is profoundly mistaken to describe the assassination of the two unarmed school administrators as a "battle." (I left these comments at the SLA talk page, as well.)-- Galliaz 12:18, 18 August 2007 (UTC) reply

Esemono, I'm still interested in discussing this important question, and hope you're amenable to a dialogue.-- Galliaz 23:07, 22 September 2007 (UTC) reply

Greetings,

When you added some improvements here recently, you also removed a couple of links that looked okay to me. Was this an oversight?

I am a tad bit puzzled as to why you created the page User:TomStar81/Archive 2; that would technically be a page I would create, and its not a talk page, its a user page. If you could explain that for me I would apreciate it. TomStar81 ( Talk) 03:46, 9 September 2007 (UTC) reply

Eastern Slavonia

Hi, I see that you think that the map which shows so called Republic of Serbian Krajina is suitable to show geographic area of Eastern Slavonia. I removed map simply because it is wrong. Area marked as "Eastern Slavonia", is simply part of Eastern Slavonia occupied from Serb forces in 1991-95 war. Eastern Slavonia is actually much bigger, approx. twice of this area, including cities Osijek (shown on the map but outside of marked area), Vinkovci and Djakovo (not shown on the map at all). That is the reason I removed picture, because it is misleading. Cheers,-- Plantago 17:44, 10 October 2007 (UTC) reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Norvergence.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Norvergence.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:35, 10 October 2007 (UTC) reply

External links/references

Hi, I saw you added this

------------------------------------------------------------
As per Wiki policy all external links should be in <ref> form.
 See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Footnotes for a
discussion of different citation methods and how to generate
 footnotes using the <ref>, </ref> and <reference /> tags
-------------------------------------------------------------

to Edith Shain. This is certainly not the case for external links, and I don't believe there is a policy on footnote style, see the section "Converting citation styles". Rich Farmbrough, 08:23 16 October 2007 (GMT).

Really? My take on the guideline :

Some external links are welcome (see "What should be linked", below), but it is not Wikipedia's purpose to include a comprehensive list of external links related to each topic. No page should be linked from a Wikipedia article unless its inclusion is justified. ... Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article.

Means that if a website has the same info as the wiki page then it shouldn't be included in the External Link. A Wikipedia article should NOT be a collection of links. -- Esemono 14:16, 16 October 2007 (UTC) reply

Yes, I understand the guideline, but it says nothing about "<ref> form". Rich Farmbrough, 20:22 17 October 2007 (GMT).

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Mychael_Knight_-_Uli_Herzner_-_Jeffrey_Sebelia_-_Laura_Bennett_-_2006_Project_Runway_S3.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{ di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 ( talk) 21:00, 22 December 2007 (UTC) reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Iraqi Interview Of American POWs.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Iraqi Interview Of American POWs.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot ( talk) 19:45, 2 January 2008 (UTC) reply
