Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Boston book festival has been reverted.
Your edit here to Boston book festival was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed ( http://www.facebook.com/Boston.Book.Festival) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! -- XLinkBot ( talk) 18:12, 25 March 2011 (UTC) reply

Help request

{{helpme}} My edits for the article on the Boston Book Festival have ALL been reverted. The reasoning stated is that I linked to the Facebook page for the festival. I believe that a Bot took this off in error, since the festival promotes itself via Facebook. Also, where are the rest of my edits? Please restore this soon.

-- Dwjones1108 ( talk) 18:22, 25 March 2011 (UTC) reply

I see that you already reverted the bot [1], so this request is now moot.
You can always see old edits, by clicking History at the top of any page.
However, I suggest you read our policy on maintaining a neutral point-of-view. The tone of the article is somewhat inappropriate - e.g. This initiative seeks to encourage the greater Boston community to read and discuss a piece of literary fiction by making it readily available and By reducing the barriers to engaging with literature and making the story truly accessible, translations... - this makes it sound like an advert. See also WP:PEACOCK, WP:WEASEL.
Be careful if you have a conflict of interest - if you do, read the business FAQ.  Chzz   ►  18:34, 25 March 2011 (UTC) reply
Sorry, but I was reverting the article to the bot's version while Chzz was posting above. Please do not add Facebook and Twitter links - the festival may promote through those places, but we are not here to promote anyone. As to the rest of your edits, please look at WP:NPOV and avoid the advertising speak such as 'myriad' when you re-add the updating information in a properly encyclopaedic manner of writing. Any questions, please ask me, or Chzz or any regular editor. Peridon ( talk) 18:41, 25 March 2011 (UTC) reply

--How, then, does one talk about the mission of something like One City, One Story, when its primary purpose is to accomplish the goals listed?

Please sign your posts here with ~~~~. Thanks. Missions are best avoided - especially Mission Statements. Read the policies we've thrown at you, and see what you can come up with. Pretend you aren't connected to the Festival and are doing a report on it for a Court or something like that. Peridon ( talk) 18:45, 25 March 2011 (UTC) reply

--Undoing all edits made within the last 72 hours is really drastic, especially when there was the list of authors that took hours to compile. Can I get that back please? Dwjones1108 ( talk) 18:47, 25 March 2011 (UTC) reply

I can put them back - no worries. Peridon ( talk) 18:49, 25 March 2011 (UTC) reply
All back except the Facebook and Twitter, which are really best left out. Actually, I owe you a bit of an apology - It's not quite as promotional as it first looked. If that is really the 'mission' of the Festival, you can use a quote for that. Lose the myriad and dynamic - they're rather PR. It was the mission wording followed by a 'myriad' and Twitter in for good measure that triggered me. Peridon ( talk) 18:57, 25 March 2011 (UTC) reply

Thank you for returning those. I just could not afford to lose that much work. I tried to finagle the wording around the One City, One Story project to show that it accomplished those goals rather than promotes them. I hope the article is at a place where it can stay put for a little while. Thanks for understanding. Dwjones1108 ( talk) 19:05, 25 March 2011 (UTC) reply

Thank you for not shouting at me.... There's a myriad left but I don't think it will worry anyone too much - if it does, they'll change it. That happens here - if an article doesn't change for six months, it means no-one's looking at it. Peridon ( talk) 19:14, 25 March 2011 (UTC) reply
