Removing AfD template

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with American propaganda in the Mexican–American War. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. This is an automated message from a bot about this edit, where you removed the deletion template from an article before the deletion discussion was complete. If this message is in error, please report it. Snotbot   t •  c »  14:33, 26 April 2012 (UTC) reply

American propaganda in the Mexican–American War

The article has been proposed for deletion because the intro reads like an essay: ie it is a personal analyss. Thisis contrary to Wikipei guidelines. Moreover most of the content of the article would be better included in the Mexican–American War article, wich has ections on pro and anti war opinions. Hi, friend

Thanks for your contribution on the propaganda aspect of the Mexican–American War. Unfortunately the piece has been sucked into the gravitational pull of Articles for Deletion, which is a quality control mechanism at Wikipedia best conceived as a sort of traffic court in which the article in question will receive one of two judgments — a death sentence or acquittal. There are legitimate concerns about the piece in its current state being an original essay. That is a matter of editing and fixable. What the "trial" of the piece is ultimately about is whether the topic is itself "notable" in Wikipedia terms — which is to say, is "American propaganda in the Mexican–American War" the subject of (a) multiple (b) substantial (c) independent (d) published pieces of coverage in so-called "reliable sources." So while it may seem like everyone is out to get you for writing an essay, the real question is something altogether different — are there book chapters, or large sections of books, or journal articles, or press coverage on the TOPIC "American propaganda in the Mexican–American War"?

That's what you need to start searching for. If you find journal articles or book chapters 1, 2, and 3 from academic journals on this specific topic, this piece is very much savable. Look and see. It is all about the sourcing.

If you are confused about what is going on here or if you want to communicate with me to ask questions, etc. you may either leave a message for me on my "talk page" by clicking the link (talk) at the end of my signature below — or if it is more comfortable, feel free to email me directly at MutantPop@aol.com. Be advised that talk pages are read by many people, not just the recipient, so tone things down accordingly there. If you feel the need to vent, contact me directly instead.

I may be able to help you a little on this piece, but my own schedule is kind of tight from now through the end of next week, so the assistance I'm able to give will be fairly slight, unfortunately. I will close with one happy thought: nothing is ever "lost" at Wikipedia. In the event that this piece is closed "Delete" at the end the week of debate, the material can be saved to a page accessible to you out of sight of Wikipedia visitors. There you can work on crafting a page that will meet Wikipedia's guidelines and policies.

My own sense, speaking as a history guy, is that this topic IS "notable" in Wikipedia terms. My sense as a Wikipedian is that the piece is in serious trouble in terms of the deletion debate based on its current tone. THAT can be fixed if the sources I mention above can be mustered. Get looking for those fast and let me know what you find and I'll help you proceed.

Sorry that your first exposure backstage at Wikipedia is such an unpleasant one. Your contribution attempt is seriously appreciated though and if you can dig up the sources I promise to do my best helping you to preserve the piece.
