Biography

Sydney Crooks, was born in Bigwood Westmoreland Jamaica on the 24 of February 1945.At the aged of 17, migrated to Trench Town ,Kingston Jamaica. He then formed a group called"The Spectaculars" which lasted for a brief spell.Then he formed another group called "The Counts" which lasted for another brief spell.He then formed another group call "The Pioneers reggae singing group" with his brother Derrick Crooks, and friend Winston Hewitt. The Pioneers reggae singing group , then made their first recording at the Treasure Isle studios.The song was called "good nanny",they then made they second record, its was call I"ll never come running back to you no more". then they third record was call"Give up" fallowed, by "Having a ball' and then "Whip them".Winston Hewitt and Derrick Crooks left the group.Sydney Crooks set out to find two other members. He found Glen Adams,with who he join up with and made the song call "Shake it up" and "goodies are the greatest" , then Glen Adams departed. Sydney Crooks ,then join up with Joe Gibbs,and his Amalgated Label.The Pioneers now became just Sydney Crooks,entering the Dinamic Sound Recording Studio, to record his first song for The "Amalgated Label", and when he finish laying the backing track, he decide to use the prublic convenience out side of the Studio.He saw a boy sitting on a stone, and he asked the boy if he could sing, the boy said yes, and that boy turned out to be "Jackie Robinson, singing harmonies on the songs, call "Give me little loving".Robinson joined "The Pioneers reggae singing group as an harmony singer. Robinson, song harmony on "Catch the beat", "Long shot bus me bet", Catch the jack pot", Long shot kick the bucket",Poor ramaceas".Then George Dekker, later join the group,and The Pioneers,had their first number one song in Jamaica.The song was called "Samfi man" The Pioneers had a series of hit singles between 1968 and 1971, and continued to release albums until the mid 1970s.

Sydney Crooks, who had been based in London since 1970, moved into production, and worked with some of reggae's biggest names in the 1970s, including Dennis Brown (Superstar), Dennis Alcapone (Belch It Off), and Gregory Isaacs (All I Have is Love). [1] He also produced skinhead reggae tracks with a science fiction/ comic book theme, such as "Outer Space" and "Return of Batman", these credited to the Sydney All Stars, and early records by Junior English. [2] In the 1980s, he went on to produce work by Justin Hinds, Owen Gray, and Marcia Griffiths (Rock My Soul)Tyrone Taylor("Move up black man") Fredy Mckay("Take these chains")Altone Ellis"Carlene Daves"Jackie Brown"Eric Donaldson"The Pioneers"Jeniffer Lara"Kevin Isaacs"Donna Marie"BB Seaton",and DD Dennis", Eugean Paul",George Faith",Brent Dowe"Dobby Dobson"Horace Andy",Don Campbell" Rock Campbell","Jean adebanba"Christine Joy white","The Maytone,"Winston Groovy",Johny Orlando","The Eclips band",and others.

Sydney Crooks, Luddy Pioneer, returned to Kingston, Jamaica in 1996 to become the in-house arranger and engineer at Joe Gibbs' recording studio. [3] Crooks continued performing and recording with The Pioneers until 1989, when they split up to concentrate on separate careers. They reformed in 1999 and have continued to perform.
