Alistair Overeem edit reverts
Hi
Cassiopeia, you recently reverted two edits I made to the short description of the
Alistair Overeem article. Your justification has been that the fact that he won the K1 championship warrants including him being a former kickboxer in the short description, but I think this is incorrect. As per
Wikipedia:Short description, the short description should be as short as possible. Including a fighter's past career or wins does not qualify as being "as short as possible". I think Overeem's short description should be restricted to mentioning his current career, nothing more.

Revirvlkodlaku Good day and thank you for the message above. I have added about 15K short description so far and when I started joining Short disc project, I had some communication with the editor/admin who champion the project - see
here. Thus, it is no right or wrong way to write the short disc but when writing a short disc we should state it in clear and short what/who subject is bout and not about whether we should not add the former career/position. Example example
Beyoncé /
Jennifer Lopez, I do agree with you if the former position/career is a vertical progression such as we would not include "lawyer" in President
Barack Obama. Hundred of thousands MMA fighters started out/competed in kickboxing, but only 9 fighters won K-1 World Grand Prix where K-1most prestige kickboxing promotion in the world just as NBA to basketball, Tour de France to multi stage bicycle race or Ironman 70.3 Hawaii to ironman triathlons race, and only K-1 3 K-1 World Grand Prix champions transitioned to MMA and Overeem is one of them. It is not a small achievement to win the title. To state Overeem is a kickboxer and a MMA fighter in the short disc, I see no harm but appropriate so. Stay safe and best.

Fight Island dates
Hello, Cass. How are you? I noticed you changed the dates from the Fight Island events, but you've read it wrong.
Gulf Standard Time is UTC+04:00, while
Eastern Daylight Time is currently UTC-04:00. That means 8 hours of difference. Therefore:
UFC 253:
Main card – 10 p.m. ET (Sep 26) / 6 a.m. GST (Sep 27)
Late Prelims – 8 p.m. ET 4 a.m. / GST (Sep 27)
Early Prelims – 6:30 p.m. ET (Sep 26) / 2:30 a.m. GST (Sep 27)
The only one that would change is UFC 254, which will be broadcast prime time in Abu Dhabi:
UFC 254:
Main card – 2 p.m. ET / 10 p.m. GST
Late Prelims – 12 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. GST
Early Prelims – 10:15 a.m. ET / 6:15 p.m. GST i
If it happens on Oct 24, it is the same day regardless of the location. So we have it as October 25 (Sunday at the moment), but they do not have the date on it on the website. It will probably be October 24 (Saturday). Anyway... I hope you understand and I'm restoring the correct dates to the first four events. Take care.

Como is a new Android app, that uses Wikidata lexemes and senses to create a word-guessing game. It let's players create new senses and tests them on other players to finally save them in Wikidata. The app is developed as part of a BA thesis, to determine if this concept is useful to create more lexicographical data, and testers would be very welcome.
A long-standing bug has been fixed (
T217144) where Items and Lexemes created via OAuth would not be added to the user’s watchlist even if the user had the Add pages I create and files I upload to my watchlist setting enabled. (The Add pages and files I edit to my watchlist setting was probably likewise ineffective, but this was not tested specifically.) Affected tools include
QuickStatements,
Mix'n'Match, and
Wikidata Lexeme Forms; users of these and other tools may see more pages being added to their watchlists now. (This only applies to new edits and page creations; previously created or edited pages will not be automatically added to the watchlist retroactively.)

Editors are automatically added to some user groups. For example editors are added to
autoconfirmed users when they have edited enough times and long enough.
Abuse filters can hinder users from automatically getting user rights for a period of time. They can also remove rights user have. Wikis can now ask to change how long this period of time is for their wiki
in Phabricator. It is currently five days.
[2]
Problems
Last year some abuse filters stopped working because of a new change. If they tried to use variables that were unavailable for that action they would fail. This has now been fixed.

Changes later this week
The
new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 September. It will be on all wikis from 1 October (
calendar).
Future changes
You can't see the language links to other language versions from the talk page or history page. They are also not shown when you edit an article. This could change. It is not decided if for example the history page should link to another history page or to the article. You can take part in the
discussion in Phabricator.
The link colours could change. This is to make the difference between links and other text more clear. You can
read more in Phabricator.
In your preferences you can choose to get different notifications on the web or by email. You will see Apps as one of the alternatives later this week. This is because the
Android and iOS Wikipedia apps will use push notifications for those who want them. You can see the
preferences on the test wiki. The goal is to have push notifications on Android in October and on iOS in early 2021.
[4]
You can soon put pages on your watchlist for a limited time. This could be useful if you want to watch something for a shorter time but don't want it on your watchlist forever. It now works on
mediawiki.org and will come to more wikis later. You can
read more and
see when it will come to other wikis.
Hi
Cassiopeia, we have discussed short descriptions before so I thought I would consult you on something I've been dealing with in the past while. I've been engaged in a "silent battle" with another editor over short descriptions of various films. This editor closely monitors film pages, and insists that the only required information in a short description should be the year it was released and the fact that it's a film, so for example, it will read "1952 film". I am of the opinion that in the very least, a film's short description should include the nation where it was made (not necessarily where it was filmed, of course). I like to add the genre as well, as I think it not only helps disambiguate the film from others in a succinct manner, but it can help casual readers. You seem to have experience with short descriptions, what are your thoughts on this? Thank you!

Revirvlkodlaku, There are a few ways for film short disc (1) by year and country if we dont know the director - example 2019 Spanish film. (2) If we know the director then 2019 film directed xxxxx" (3) For a more detail short disc we would describe all necessary info in a brief yet condense phase - example "2019 epic historical France film directed by xxx". (4) If we dont know the year or the director or the country, then just summaries the content of the article we would find that is appropriate - example - "horror film set in Victoria period". To say all that, it is would be best to open a discussion in the article talk page to engage the involved editor for (1) if you involved in more than 3 revert in the same article within 24 hour, you would be blocked from editing due to
WP:Edit warring (EW). EW also apply edits which revert back to the original/period edits for a period of them (a few days to few weeks) without any discussions - which we would call silent edit warring. Let me know if anything else I could help. Stay safe and best.

Cassiopeia, I appreciate your input, but this isn't quite what I'm asking. I'm aware of the things you listed, and this is why I'm having an issue with the other editor. The individual insists on only including the year and the word "film" in the short description of each film they supervise. I'm asking you if you think this is appropriate, and even better as a short description than my version, which would in the least include the film's country of origin. Thanks!

Revirvlkodlaku, If we do know the country and the director then we would add them in. If many articles are involved then open the discussion on the involved editor talk page. Let me know if you need further assistance. best.

Cassiopeia, thanks again for trying to intercede in the discussion on s/d's with Lugnuts. As you can see, the individual is rather recalcitrant and not open to compromise on the matter, which is unfortunate. I don't know if there's another avenue where this could be pursued in order to attempt to reach a compromise with them. I'm fine letting it go, of course, but it does still bother me since we're not simply talking about one edit, or one article, but multiple pages, and I do think these pages could use a better s/d. Thanks also for your tip on how to fix the issue with my handle, I have gone and taken care of that :)

Cassiopeia, it is many pages, dozens that I've seen myself, but this editor has likely done the same thing to hundreds of pages...still, I would agree that it's not a huge issue. After all, it's better that the articles have a too-short description than none at all, right? Ha, yes, I followed your directions and changed my signature. HERE-1 (see second section "Namespace Totals" and look for "main"). When you reach 200 main space edits then pop back here to let me know.
At the meantime, pls complete
WP:TWA program for it would set you up to familiar with some basic Wikipedia guidelines.
I understand that you have declared that you do some volunteer work for Megaputer Intelligence), pls disclosed your
WP:COI in your article talk page (which you had) and as well as in your user page for
Draft:PolyAnalyst.
Although your current username is permissible; however, I do suggest you to choose (rename) a more fitting/totally unrelated name to Megaputer since you did and still edit
Draft:PolyAnalyst (you create the page prior the admin changed your user to current one) which the subject is associated with Megaputer Intelligent. (Take your time to find a new user name). Pls do not edit any any articles which that the content related to Megaputer Intelligent or PolyAnalyst in Wikipedia but you can
WP:Request edit on the article talk pages along with source provided.
Once you have change your username again, pls disclosed all the previous user names on your user page.
Thank you for your response, Cassiopeia. I have been editing for quite some time, and I am familiar with the basic guidelines. I believe that the statement I had on my user page already did constitute a COI disclosure, but I have added a clarification just in case. I would prefer to keep my username, as I do not believe that it is in violation of any guideline and because it helps me be more open about my COI, which I have made no attempt to conceal. Per
WP:COI, it is permissible for me to edit pages I am associated with as long as I declare my COI, which I have. I am quite confident that I have followed guidelines on this. Additionally, per
WP:ALTACCN, it is not necessary for me to disclose the identity of previous accounts when creating a new account for privacy reasons, as this would defeat the purpose of having the account. In fact, it is not even required for me to disclose the existence of previous accounts, but I have chosen to do so anyway for greater transparency.
I see that you have placed a template on
Draft:PolyAnalyst claiming that it needs a cleanup for NPOV. I have already worked to clean it up for NPOV. That kind of ugly template can stick around for quit a long time if no one works to fix the problem. It would hardly be right for me to remove it with my COI, so I very much hope that you either work to fix the parts you believe to be POV or that you just remove the template. Additionally, please do not revert changes to my talk page, as you did
here. It is my talk page, and I have the right to keep it as I please.

Hi
Sam at Megaputer, I reverted your talk page as I need to added in point 1 below.
pls see the instructions for user page and article talk page disclose for COI -
WP:DISCLOSE. You need to rework on your user page on
Draft:PolyAnalyst.
Although you are allowed to delete the info/messages on your user talk page; however, it would be best for your to archive them - see
Help:Archiving a talk page for instructions, for it does not look good on your to remove all the warnings for it seems a little suspicious when you request for certain user right.
Any articles which you have COI, you need to
WP:Request edit on the article talk page and do provide source to support the content which need to be change/add.
You have only 57 main edits, to me that is a new editor and finished the
WP:TWA would be helpful for me participate in CUVA, unless you have another account, which you need to disclose to me for me to review.
pls do NOT remove
WP:COI template, it is a notification for you as well as other reviewers. I am one of the AfC reviewer, but I would not review your page as you have ask to enroll in CUVA program and I will leave it to other AfC reveiwer to work on the approval.
Any future page you created that you have COI, you need to disclose in the article talk page, your user page and the article need to have 2 stage approval, first in AfC and second in NPP, where you must create the page in AfC (draft space).
Hi
Sam at Megaputer, I have seen you deleted my messages on you talk page and indicate you no longer interested to be trained by me in CUVA program - see

That is correct. I am no longer interested in being trained by you. And in the future, please do not cask
WP:aspersions that I have failed to disclose a COI when I have done no such thing, and please do not report me on administrator's noticeboard for policies I did not violate, as you did

Hi
Sam at Megaputer, As I stated, I wishes you the best and for me to do or stated the above is not personal attack. Btw you didnt disclosed the draft page which yo have COI "properly" in your user page. I suggest you to read the link I provide in
Draft:PolyAnalyst. You seem to know alot about Wikipedia and your 57 main space edits do not reflect such for it usually for editor has other Wikipedia account or been blocked before and recreate the account - (Note: I am NOT accuse you with anything - just a thought/wonder). I do check many things, for many editors who wish to join CVUA so they would get the rollback right and then later found out they were blocked for certain reason. Thus I am not act to upset you personally, as it is part of my work to do so to accept any editor to my best effort or knowledge. Do stay safe in this covid-19 period and take good care of yourself. Of course you are not accusing me of anything. You are just casting aspersions. This is not the first time I have asked you to stop doing that. It is disclosed on my user page that I have created this account for privacy reasons, and as noted there, that is acceptable per
WP:ALTACCN. I did disclose my COI properly. It is not required to use a template, only suggested. I do wish that this had been handled more smoothly, and I am still planning to get involved in the anti-vandalism community so that I can build my new bot. The

Letters immediately after a link are shown as part of the link. For example the entire word in [[Child]]ren is linked. On Arabic wikis this works at both the start and end of a word. Previously on Arabic wikis numbers and other non-letter Unicode characters were shown as part of the link at the start of a word but not at the end. Now only Latin and Arabic letters will extend links on Arabic wikis.

Take care.

I see what you are saying and you were right for I have read them wrongly. I just check UFC.com on AU site and it states UFC 253 maincard is Sun, Sep 27 / 12:00 PM AEST. I stand corrected and thank you for informing. Enjoy UFC 253 this weekend - many good matchups. Stay safe and best.

[3]

As mentioned before that is no right or wrong way for short disc but we aim to provide brief, condense phrase to describe the article. Do open a discussion in the article talk page.

Revirvlkodlaku, Good day. If it involved only a few pages then let it go for it is a small matter. However, if it happens again and many times, then you can bring the matter to
WP:ANI; however, I would try to avoid that in all meant for it is a last resort and ANI discussion at times could be a motional exhaustion and the if you think the matter is small enough than less it go and spend your time and energy in other articles/areas/tasks you enjoy and fancy. I thought it was strange that Lugnuts would bring the point up but then get all huffy when you actually weighed in. Oh well, I'm glad there are editors like you around, reasonable and easy to talk to. Thank you again :)

Sam at Megaputer Good day. Thank you for interested in the CUVA program.
.Participant needs to have at least 200 mainspace edits to join the program. You have 57 mianspace edits (as of this message - pls see
HERE-1 (see second section "Namespace Totals" and look for "main").

Hi
Sam at Megaputer, I have seen you deleted my messages on you talk page and indicate you no longer interested to be trained by me in CUVA program - see
here. All the best and stay safe.
Cassiopeia(

That is correct. I am no longer interested in being trained by you. And in the future, please do not cask
WP:aspersions that I have failed to disclose a COI when I have done no such thing, and please do not report me on administrator's noticeboard for policies I did not violate, as you did
here. Please do discuss before reporting, and please read up on policy. This was a textbook example of how an anti-vandalism editor should not act.

Best.
Cassiopeia(

Of course you are not accusing me of anything. You are just casting aspersions. This is not the first time I have asked you to stop doing that. It is disclosed on my user page that I have created this account for privacy reasons, and as noted there, that is acceptable per
WP:ALTACCN. I did disclose my COI properly. It is not required to use a template, only suggested. I do wish that this had been handled more smoothly, and I am still planning to get involved in the anti-vandalism community so that I can build my new bot. I want you to know that I won't hold a grudge, but please do remember to discuss before you report.

There were many errors with the new MediaWiki version last week. The new version was rolled back. Updates that should have happened last week are late.

The
new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 October. It will be on all wikis from 8 October (
calendar).
