Ant Middleton (born 22nd September 1980) is an ex British Army officer and TV presenter. He was also a point man/lead scout and also a primary fires operator and sniper, then joined the Special Boat Service (SBS) in 2008 and spent 4 years there. Prior to joining the SBS, he also served in the Royal Marines and 9 Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers – meaning that he has achieved the ‘Holy Trinity’ of the UK’s Elite Forces (P Company, Commando Course, UK Special Forces Selection). Middleton is best known as the Chief Instructor for Channel 4’s hit show, SAS : Who Dares Wins. After two series a third has been commissioned by Channel 4 with Ant returning as Chief Instructor. [1] In 2017 he was at the forefront of Mutiny, as he captained Channel 4's big budget reenactment of Captain William Bligh's journey after the infamous Mutiny on the Bounty [2] and he is currently in production for Channel 4's new engineering and survival based show called Escape. [3]
Middleton was born in Portsmouth but was raised in rural France before he joined the Royal Engineers, aged 16 before moving onto the 9 Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers. After 5 years service, touring Northern Ireland in 1997 and Macedonia in 2001, he joined the Royal Marines in 2002, aged 21. Middleton passed the SBS selection process in 2008 where he spent a number of years serving in Afghanistan before leaving in 2012. Middleton achieved the 'Holy Trinity' of the UK's Elite Forces (P Company, Commando Course, UK Special Forces Selection) [4] before transferring his skills to personal security.
Middleton is best known as the Chief Instructor for Channel 4's show SAS: Who dares Wins. SAS: Who Dares Wins see's Middleton and other ex-Service soldiers put contestants through a series of tests meant to replicate the SAS selection. Channel 4 aired the first series in 2015 with a second series following shortly after, a third series has recently been commissioned. He then went on to lead another Channel 4 programme called Mutiny [5]. Mutiny saw Middleton lead a team of men across the Pacific Ocean recreating Captain William Bligh's infamous Mutiny on the Bounty. The journey started in Tonga, before heading through Fiji, Vanuatu, Australia and Timor [6]. Channel 4 aired Mutiny in 2017.
Middleton is currently in production with Channel 4 to create a new engineering and survival based show called "Escape" [7].
Middleton acts as ambassador for a number of charities including SSAFA [8], the RNLI [9] and Give Us Time [10].
