Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{ unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{ unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. Requested username:

Request reason:

I will gladly change my name to simply Fife Star. I am new content creator and am experimenting with wikipedia to show potential clients for my web content/copy my skills through the skill of Wikipedia. This is an experiment to show skill and simply that. Yes I have a website for myself and a web designer. If the user Huon doesn't have a website, that would seem silly as anyone with a skill should broadcast that skill. Again, I will remove the term media and if I must I can switch my name completely but it seems extreme to punish someone for having a website. Fife~ 21:39, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Decline reason:

You're not being punished. We just don't allow usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website. So "fifestar" also won't work, for the same reason: it's your business name, as evidenced by your business website. You're welcome just to use your name, or whatever else you wish that's within our policy. --jpgordon ::==( o ) 23:51, 23 July 2014 (UTC) reply

Request reason:

That is fine. I will change it to simply Brian Fife if that acceptable. I just simply want to use this as examples of my content/copy creation. So if I change it to Brian Fife, will my username be unblocked? Fife~ 00:11, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Decline reason:

I must say that I'm not happy about the idea of you using Wikipedia as free webspace - which is what using it to demonstrate your skills to people amounts to in my book. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not free webspace or social media where you can do almost what you want. If you are planning to contribute sound articles or edits, I would welcome you. If you plan to use Wikipedia editing purely for your own purposes, no, I wouldn't. Peridon ( talk) 19:38, 24 July 2014 (UTC) reply

Can someone give me a straight answer? I will change my name to something non self-promotional if I must. Simply "Brian777" is satisfactory. Whether someone agrees with it or not, it seems silly that you would punish someone who wants to show examples of their work. Everyone should be proud of their work no matter where it is displayed. And I would prefer to bring my talents to a worthwhile cause where I am providing a service as well as contributing to my future options. So, if someone would please unlock my account, that would be greatly appreciated. Fife~ 22:18, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

I've unblocked your account so that you may request the username change. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. (Non-administrator observation) Hi, Brian. I don't think anyone has an issue issue with "Brian Fife" as a username, so you could use that instead of "Brian777" if you wish. Daniel Case was only expressing concern with what you would do on Wikipedia if unblocked. To alleviate those concerns, please be a bit more specific about what sort of work would you do on Wikipedia. If you plan to improve existing articles, what sorts of improvements would you make? (Or, what sorts of articles would you improve?) If you plan to write new articles, what sorts of subjects would you write about? (Note: If you do plan on writing new articles, I suggest you read your first article beforehand.) We are giving you an answer. We have no problems with the chosen name as such. But there are other issues that we aren't happy about, and which need explaining. It's best to get them settled now rather than later. Can you explain to us what you mean by showing examples of your work? I can't think of any regular editor who does this - we work on the articles and discussion boards, and policies and technological wizardry, and some (like me) specialise in getting rid of the unsuitable stuff. Peridon ( talk) 19:53, 25 July 2014 (UTC) reply
Great. Once the profile is unblocked I will do just that. As for my post types and editing capabilities, I am avid pro-wrestling and independent music fan. My hope is to write about independent music artists and edit/update professional wrestling pages. Like for example: Prince Devitt just officially signed with the WWE. [1] Other than that, I see wikipedia as a great chance to brush up on my editing skills and use my degree in English. I hope this clears up any issues you might have and will allow my profile to be unblocked. Fife~ 16:33, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
