Hey guy, you really seem to have an editing itch, no offense intended. After my notice, you made a dozen further edits and posted six comments on this issue. Do you really think so many edits are necessary to express your opinion? With each edit, a separate version of the talk page is saved, thus overloading Wikipedia hardware. With each edit, a separate version of the talk page is saved, thus overloading Wikipedia hardware. Not sure if is the case, MetaWiki (I think...someone please advise if my assumption is incorrect) will keep the changes from the previous version to the next. Not the entire page, no point saving stuff that never changed. It uses other compression technologies too. If entire page was saved each time, we will run out of hard-disk space in no time. If you think deeply and watch with an open mind, you shall find that my edits are not harming the credibility of wikipedia. There are many others who lower the credibility of wikipedia. Advance notification: Request for later arbitration

Hi,

I'm writing to you because you have been objective and unbiased in many matters on wikipedia in the past and I trust your judgement. I believe that I am being harassed by an admin who is abusing his powers to make POV edits on the articles on Michael Witzel and the California Hindu Textbook Controversy (he has admitted that he is a student researching such issues and so has a partisan bias on this matter). He has threatened me with blocks and bans and, based on his past history, may do so very soon. Right now, he has only made empty threats in my talk page, so i's not a problem. However, if he blocks me, then I request you to arbitrate this issue. I am informing you in advance because I will not be able to contact you if I am blocked by this admin. His accusations are baseless as all my edits are directly quoted from references I have cited.

Oh, you're in Chennai? I am doing a research project about the American composer Alan Hovhaness who visited Madras in 1959 and composed music for Carnatic instruments. He worked with a pianist named Handel Manuel who was a local man specializing in Western classical music. I wonder if you could find any information in reference books about Handel Manuel. The piece Alan Hovhaness composed for Carnatic instrument ensemble (I think in early 1959) was called "Nagooran." It was composed in honor of the saint of the Nagore Andavar Dargah which he visited; I think it's located in Nagapattinam. Badagnani 16:21, 9 August 2006 (UTC) reply

How could you know that it was his IP address? Having said this, I would like to add that there are many types of editors here and some are wasting resources of wikipedia and indirectly cheating the donors of Wikimedia Foundation. Oh, it was just a silly reference. A user with a bone to pick called in to rant about rogue admin bullies on WP, and he mentioned K as his example. I was hoping you could expidite the Wikipedia:Requests for investigation on a vandal.

The reason I am writing you is because you deleted the Mohammad Reza Aghaei Laghaei page on July 22, 2006. [6].

This user has been a long time vandal to the CIA page, putting this name Mohammad Reza Aghaei Laghaei on the CIA page numberous times, and he has vandalized other pages sporadically over the months.

Today, I just reported this user to the Wikipedia:Requests for investigation police. [7] I also built a page about this user: Category:Suspected_Wikipedia_sockpuppets_of_Akademy-force, this page was automatically created when I put the {{Template:Sockpuppet}} on this users 8 user pages.

Is it possible to close all of these 8 ISP's and his user name down permenantly?

Need help

Hi Badani, Please help us. One user is already vandalizing all Kerala related pages. Many users have already warned him. I have once posted a block request in admin page, but it was archived and no body noticed it. I have posted one more request in admin notice board. the request is given below.

I too agree in blocking Alniko and his IP addresses 203.199.213.66 and 203.199.213.67

He is just making the reverts blindly. Several later edits are also getting reverted. It seems like he is having a personal copy of an older version, and just pasting it in the article. There are several warnings in his talk pages from the users User:Rajithmohan, User:Deepujoseph, User:Sathyalal, User:Samaleks, and some others.

He is still not complying to the wiki policies and guidelines.

The charges are :

  • 1. He is continously engaged in edit war, and is vandalising the pages.
  • 2. He is continously violating NPOV policy by adding commentary and his personal analysis into articles.
  • 3. He is not adhering to the Neutral Point of View. The views are arrived after much discussion in the talk_page. And now, all the editors are happy with the out come. But this user suddenly came in and started making changes. He is not even willing to take it to the talk pages.
  • 4. He violates the three-revert rule frequently. See the history of Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kerala Pages.
  • 5. Personal Attacks against other users. You can see his personal attacks in the talk pages of Sathyalal, Samaleks, Alniko(the unsigned comments are made by him - he often comments in his own talk_page !!) and in the history section of Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kerala pages.

I suggest to impose immediate blocking upon the user:Alniko and his IP addresses 203.199.213.66 and 203.199.213.67 to stabilaze the articles.

The same language is used from the same IP. Also the same comments from the IPs. Also while vandalizing he has just removed data with citations. He has removed the pictures of Technopark from same IPs. That coincidence is very easy to recognize his IP. Also Once editors asked him to put his user id instead of IP and he responded. However, unless we introduce massive reforms, I am afraid we shall never realize our goal. I am afraid of a time when there shall not be any mutual trust and respect, the virtual environment shall become polluted; and as regards the civility, less said the better: perhaps while dealing with vandals many of us have picked up their lingo too; moreover, innocuous comments on talk pages and discussion are blown out of proportions to make a case against some one and then to “kill” that fellow’s chance to become more useful to wikipedia. In short, many of us are using the platform given to us by the donors to the Wikimedia Foundation to further our egoistic aspirations while giving them other respectable nomenclature. Once the game plan is laid, many innocent souls fall prey to the game, and start yelling Yes Minister!

At the outset, I thank you for your kind words.
I saw your mail yesterday, but did not reply - no
particular reason was there for the inaction on my part.
Yes, there are many things troubling me, and the
paramount among them is the inability of the
wikipedians to build an encyclopedia to emerge as the
best and beat the Encyclopedia Britannica. 1000s and
10000s of dedicated and intelligent contributors, and
still we are far from our goal. I do not know the
exact reason. Perhaps we require massive reforms in
many of our processes and systems to emerge as the
Best. Perhaps many of the wikipedians, instead of
strengthening the hands of the Jimbo Whales and his
core team intentionally or unintentionally harm the
dream of realizing the pious goal of building the sum
total of human knowledge. There are many other factors
and feelings, which I shall share with you from time
to time.
I once again thank you for your pro-active action to
understand the “troubles”.

Interestingly, this online encyclopedia , that holds one million articles in English alone (English is just onethird of the total content), and gets close to 48,000 visitors a day, employs only four full-time staff, besides Mr Wales. A CEO, a manager and two programmers—one in the US and another in Australia. The rest, he says, is managed by volunteers.

A core community of 2,000 to 3,000 ensures flow of new English content, corrections and modifications . Wikipedia boasts of at least 48 languages, each with articles in excess on 10,000.

Wales appears unfazed by the spate of controversies over issues such as vandalism and edit wars - some of them in the political domain. He believes that the online community as a whole strives for neutrality and will keep a close eye on ‘Wiki’ .

“In terms of quality of content, we are quite pleased but it is not yet where we want it to be,” he said adding that the goal is to have a quality that is “better than Britannica” . Wales sees the next one or two years dedicated to moving to “a more stable version” .

The idea of Wikipedia 1.0, which is a concept and not a specific technique, is that we want to get to a stable version (of articles) so that we can do things like extract articles from Wikipedia to go to print or to go to DVD or CD ROM... That is difficult to do with a live site because the live site is constantly being edited, and there is a constant vandalism which is immediately cleaned up.

Hey guy, you really seem to have an editing itch, no offense intended. After my notice, you made a dozen further edits and posted six comments on this issue. Do you really think so many edits are necessary to express your opinion? With each edit, a separate version of the talk page is saved, thus overloading Wikipedia hardware. Not sure if is the case, MetaWiki (I think...someone please advise if my assumption is incorrect) will keep the changes from the previous version to the next. Not the entire page, no point saving stuff that never changed. It uses other compression technologies too. If entire page was saved each time, we will run out of hard-disk space in no time. I believe that I am being harassed by an admin who is abusing his powers to make POV edits on the articles on Michael Witzel and the California Hindu Textbook Controversy (he has admitted that he is a student researching such issues and so has a partisan bias on this matter). He has threatened me with blocks and bans and, based on his past history, may do so very soon. Right now, he has only made empty threats in my talk page, so i's not a problem. Oh, you're in Chennai? I am doing a research project about the American composer Alan Hovhaness who visited Madras in 1959 and composed music for Carnatic instruments. He worked with a pianist named Handel Manuel who was a local man specializing in Western classical music. I wonder if you could find any information in reference books about Handel Manuel. The reason I am writing you is because you deleted the Mohammad Reza Aghaei Laghaei page on July 22, 2006. [6].

This user has been a long time vandal to the CIA page, putting this name Mohammad Reza Aghaei Laghaei on the CIA page numberous times, and he has vandalized other pages sporadically over the months.

Today, I just reported this user to the Wikipedia:Requests for investigation police. [7] I also built a page about this user: Category:Suspected_Wikipedia_sockpuppets_of_Akademy-force, this page was automatically created when I put the {{Template:Sockpuppet}} on this users 8 user pages.

Is it possible to close all of these 8 ISP's and his user name down permenantly?

I too agree in blocking Alniko and his IP addresses 203.199.213.66 and 203.199.213.67

He is just making the reverts blindly. Several later edits are also getting reverted. It seems like he is having a personal copy of an older version, and just pasting it in the article. There are several warnings in his talk pages from the users User:Rajithmohan, User:Deepujoseph, User:Sathyalal, User:Samaleks, and some others.

He is still not complying to the wiki policies and guidelines.

The charges are :

  • 1. He is continously engaged in edit war, and is vandalising the pages.
  • 2. He is continously violating NPOV policy by adding commentary and his personal analysis into articles.
  • 3. He is not adhering to the Neutral Point of View. The views are arrived after much discussion in the talk_page. And now, all the editors are happy with the out come. But this user suddenly came in and started making changes. He is not even willing to take it to the talk pages.
  • 4. He violates the three-revert rule frequently. See the history of Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kerala Pages.
  • 5. Personal Attacks against other users. You can see his personal attacks in the talk pages of Sathyalal, Samaleks, Alniko(the unsigned comments are made by him - he often comments in his own talk_page !!) and in the history section of Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kerala pages.

I suggest to impose immediate blocking upon the user:Alniko and his IP addresses 203.199.213.66 and 203.199.213.67 to stabilaze the articles.

The same language is used from the same IP. Also the same comments from the IPs. Also while vandalizing he has just removed data with citations. He has removed the pictures of Technopark from same IPs. That coincidence is very easy to recognize his IP. Also Once editors asked him to put his user id instead of IP and he responded. However, unless we introduce massive reforms, I am afraid we shall never realize our goal. I am afraid of a time when there shall not be any mutual trust and respect, the virtual environment shall become polluted; and as regards the civility, less said the better: perhaps while dealing with vandals many of us have picked up their lingo too; moreover, innocuous comments on talk pages and discussion are blown out of proportions to make a case against some one and then to “kill” that fellow’s chance to become more useful to wikipedia. In short, many of us are using the platform given to us by the donors to the Wikimedia Foundation to further our egoistic aspirations while giving them other respectable nomenclature. Once the game plan is laid, many innocent souls fall prey to the game, and start yelling Yes Minister!

At the outset, I thank you for your kind words.
I saw your mail yesterday, but did not reply - no
particular reason was there for the inaction on my part.
Yes, there are many things troubling me, and the
paramount among them is the inability of the
wikipedians to build an encyclopedia to emerge as the
best and beat the Encyclopedia Britannica. 1000s and
10000s of dedicated and intelligent contributors, and
still we are far from our goal. I do not know the
exact reason. Perhaps we require massive reforms in
many of our processes and systems to emerge as the
Best. Perhaps many of the wikipedians, instead of
strengthening the hands of the Jimbo Whales and his
core team intentionally or unintentionally harm the
dream of realizing the pious goal of building the sum
total of human knowledge. There are many other factors
and feelings, which I shall share with you from time
to time.
I once again thank you for your pro-active action to
understand the “troubles”.

Interestingly, this online encyclopedia , that holds one million articles in English alone (English is just onethird of the total content), and gets close to 48,000 visitors a day, employs only four full-time staff, besides Mr Wales. A CEO, a manager and two programmers—one in the US and another in Australia. The rest, he says, is managed by volunteers.

A core community of 2,000 to 3,000 ensures flow of new English content, corrections and modifications . Wikipedia boasts of at least 48 languages, each with articles in excess on 10,000.

Wales appears unfazed by the spate of controversies over issues such as vandalism and edit wars - some of them in the political domain. He believes that the online community as a whole strives for neutrality and will keep a close eye on ‘Wiki’ .

“In terms of quality of content, we are quite pleased but it is not yet where we want it to be,” he said adding that the goal is to have a quality that is “better than Britannica” . Wales sees the next one or two years dedicated to moving to “a more stable version” .

The idea of Wikipedia 1.0, which is a concept and not a specific technique, is that we want to get to a stable version (of articles) so that we can do things like extract articles from Wikipedia to go to print or to go to DVD or CD ROM... That is difficult to do with a live site because the live site is constantly being edited, and there is a constant vandalism which is immediately cleaned up.
