Please do not add peacock words, like "important", "influential", or "prominent", to lead sentences as you did here. Accolades like these are opinions and require citation. They are therefore generally discussed later in the article in a "Reception" section or the like. We also have a standard form for the lead sentence for biographies, which need to start "So-and-so (dates) is a(n) nationality + list of professions, etc." There should be no insertion of extraneous words in the beginning of the lead sentence. Thanks for trying to improve the above article, however, I've reverted your edits as you seem to misunderstand the purpose of the lead section. The article lead is supposed to be a summary of the article and should not have any information that isn't elsewhere in the article, unless it is some small point that won't fit in elsewhere see: wp:lead.
