Speedy deletion of Dev Patnaik

A tag has been placed on Dev Patnaik requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{ hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Copyright issues

Hi there; I am certain that you are editing in all good faith, but you are falling foul of copyright law. Please read WP:COPYRIGHT before transcribing any more articles. -- Anthony.bradbury "talk" 18:21, 17 March 2009 (UTC) reply

I noticed that you've been adding external links to articles [1] [2]. As per wikipedia's policy on external links, I've reverted those as advertising links. Please don't add links to businesses to wikipedia. Take care! Dayewalker ( talk) 01:10, 19 March 2009 (UTC) reply

Please stop. If you continue spamming Wikipedia, you will be blocked from editing. Syrthiss ( talk) 14:08, 20 March 2009 (UTC) reply

Basically, if the material is useful and the information comes from a reliable source it would be much better to integrate that material into the article here. When I see someone adding a large number of off wiki links with no commentary to a single site, I begin to suspect that they are seeking to generate traffic for that site and not here to improve the encyclopedia. Hope that helps. Feel free to respond to me here or on my talk page. Syrthiss ( talk) 14:32, 20 March 2009 (UTC) reply

When I used to add content with text, like Mr. So and So is also a professional speaker, and speaks extensively on this and that, those entries were also removed. Here's the thing though, some entries are removed and some aren't so I've never been able to ascertain what's offensive or inappropriate.

In a nutshell, many of our speakers, who may or MAY not be paid, each have a speaker page on our web page, that lists their bios (which according to you is copyright infringement), their A/V requirements, their head shots, and book cover art, program descriptions and most of their published articles in .pdf format. So I think the contributions I'm making offer something to the wiki user. 268wallstreet

The adding bits to the articles about 'so and so is also a professional speaker' should be allowable if sourced with reliable and verifiable sources (newspaper articles, conference proceedings). If you added that and it was removed in my slate of reverts, please feel free to reinstate that with my apologies. If you can't source it in a way that doesn't imply a conflict of interest, then you would need to discuss on article's talk pages as to why you think it should be included and why such conflict doesn't exist. Syrthiss ( talk) 14:58, 20 March 2009 (UTC) reply

I was curious if you've gone to any of the external links I've attempted to post. Again, the links contain A/V requirements, book cover art, links to articles, and speaking topics for the person in question. Please explain to me how that's a violation of your terms of service. Many times, when one of these speakers is scheduled to speak at an event, Wikipedia is the first place the sponsor will come to gather info, I NEED the info they gather to be correct. As the speaker bureau for the speaker inquestion, adding an external link to our site seems MORE than appropriate. The external links I'm trying to add by the way, contain NO, ABSOLUTELY NO solicitation for booking, sales, or offer for "consultation" or ANYTHING you could consider spamming. I just don't get while these links are being flagged over and over.

Yes, I have visited the links. Though you say that the links contain no solicitation (and I agree, in the 'buy che4p canaadian pharmacy' sense) are you denying that the speakers have hired you to represent them? If that is the case, then essentially you could/would be using wikipedia to generate traffic for your site. Thats a conflict of interest with writing an unbiased encyclopedia. I was persuing another wiki entry for Sheryl WuDunn, a speaker signed on with another agency today and they seem to be doing EXACTLY what I've been chastised for and had my entries removed for. Please explain to me why Sheryl WuDunn's wiki entry has this a link to her speaker bureau in it. Diana 268wallstreet ( talk) 13:09, 25 June 2009 (UTC) reply
Sorry, I see no blatant PR firm edits in the Sheryl WuDunn article. If you could point them out, I'd appreciate it. Just because something exists on wikipedia that appears to contradict policy doesn't mean that there is an open door to further contradict policy. It usually means that whatever has snuck in gradually on a less popular article and has been missed. Hope that helps. Syrthiss ( talk) 13:19, 25 June 2009 (UTC) reply
