RDK Management LLC is a joint venture between Comcast and Time Warner Cable announced August 15, 2013. Comcast developed the Reference Design Kit software for set-top boxes and related equipment. [1]

Comcast introduced RDK in a PowerPoint presentation at the 2012 Cable Show. At the Cable Show in June 2013, vendors showed the software made it possible to speed up product development, and Comcast introduced X2 software to be used with the Pace and Humax Xi3 box. With the creation of RDK Management, Comcast and Time Warner transferred RDK assets to the company, and anyone could license the software without cost. As of September, Comcast had used RDK in its X1 platform. Time Warner Cable planned to use RDK for IP set-top boxes which could be used for voice, data and video. [2]

On March 13, 2014 it was announced that Liberty Global had been added to the joint venture. [3]

As of April 27, 2015, over 200 companies had licensed the RDK software, used in over 5 million devices, including RDK-V for video and RDK-B for broadband. [4]
