This is an
essay. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of
Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been
thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints. |
A common misconception held by the general public is that Wikipedia, the grand creation birthed from Jimbo Wales's forehead and midwived by Larry Sanger, is created, edited, and curated by misogynist frat boys, at best, and incels at worst, chasing away women, people of color, and anyone who wants actual change or progress. Actually... this may not be that far off.
Nevertheless!
If Wikipedia editors, admins, bureaucrats, and sockpuppets (The Community, as they style themselves) want to at least prop up a legitimate facade of inclusion and progressive thinking (and keep that lovely donor money flowing in), it behooves the contributors here to stop living the stereotype. Also, stop banning women editors or driving them away with sheer crassness, but that's another essay for someone else to write.
