How to close and demote a topic.
- Determine the consensus, saving oldid #.

- Remove from
Wikipedia:Featured topic removal candidates.
- Add to
Wikipedia:Featured and good topic removal candidates/2024 log.
- Update the tallys on
Template:Featured topic log.
- Update the {{
ArticleHistory}} template on the talk pages of all articles in the topic. Remember to remove the relevant ftname (and ftmain=yes)
- follow the example below.
- | action2 = GTR or FTR
- | action2date = DATE AND TIME THAT STEP 1 WAS COMPLETED (format example: 21:38, 5 January 2021)
- | action2link = Wikipedia:Featured topic removal candidates/NAME OF TOPIC/archive1
- | action2result = Removed
- Make sure "action#" is accurate – will probably differ per article
- Remove "ftname=" and (if the main article) "ftmain"
- Update {{
Featuredtopictalk}} on
Wikipedia talk:Featured topics/ExampleTopicName and add the Topic Milestones as per
here.
- Update the topic box itself (like topic icons or add new articles that are now in the scope).
- Remove from
Wikipedia:Featured topics or
Wikipedia:Good topics.
- Add to
Wikipedia:Former featured topics
- Update the total topic count at
Wikipedia:Featured topics/count or
Wikipedia:Good topics/count, as appropriate.
