Here is my view of the Wikipedia Project:
Open source ist an idea, whose time now has eventually come. For instance, it is animated here at Wikipedia.
Information can hardly ever get lost for a thermo-dynamic heat death in not likely in our universe.
Every piece of information entered into a public information memory (e. g. Wikipedia), thas has at least some kind of das "relevance", will finally prevail (eventually - somewhere down the road).
What I mean with that is, today certain pieces of information may be considered "wrong" or "irrelevant" , but may posess eminent importance in the future. No fiction writer could ever imagine today's importance of DNA or Mobile telecommunication or Computer networking.
