Thinking and wondering

I have been an editor since November 2015.

I'm currently fixing articles related to Singapore - and I could do with a hand. Many of the articles were started at a time (c. 2005) when there was active collaboration among Wikipedians in Singapore. A thriving community debated and discussed. Sadly, that is now a thing of the past. I often go through old archived discussions to relive how things were, even though I was never a part of it. If only I had a pensieve.

One of my pet tasks here is to contribute content to the history section of articles (related to Singapore). I have often observed that Singapore seems to be suffering from selective amnesia. I say selective because certain "memories" are revived from time to time, while others are left to fade away. The fast changing landscape and the prevailing Pragmatism discourages one from thinking too much about the past. This leaves only a Government approved version of history to fill the void. I feel a sense of loss at this as I believe no single version of history is correct. It is important to document the different versions of it, so that future generations may understand better. Which is why I spend my time combing through newspaper archives, books and old maps to find out facts to add to articles. There is literally so much we do not know.
