Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority; the political function of rights is precisely to protect minorities from oppression by majorities (and the smallest minority on earth is the individual).

Fundamental Beliefs

I am new in editing/adding to Wikipedia. I am pro-freedom-of-speech, pro-internet-freedom, and generally speaking, pro-individual-freedom. I am anti-ACTA, anti-SOPA, anti-PIPA, the way they are right now. This does not mean I am pro-piracy. I'm anti-the-way-those-things-were-written-vaguely-with-potential-for-horrific-abuse-of-power(PIPA, SOPA) and anti-those-things-being-shoved-down-our-throats-without-us-knowing-wtf-they-contain(ACTA).

Though I am still learning about the world each day, I try to add what I deem to be valuable, true information, to Wikipedia. Wikipedia, being an open-for-edit encyclopedia, is inspiring and fun, but if you ever read the "talk" sections, you'll notice that there are a lot of disagreements. Disagreements are fine, but they are no longer "ok" when they turn into arguments and mean and nasty attacks. Such things are destructive. I am also against just reversing entire pages without explanation and making major edits without fully justifying the edits in Talk (including reference citations from reputable sources). These types of actions cause individuals to leave Wikipedia, and it is possible that with enough of these types of actions by many many people, Wikipedia will lose precious knowledge that "could have been." All that remains may just be the trolls--it's kind of like my Home Owner's Association. Often times, the only people left in the HOA's are bored, angry people with way too much time on their hands, and they get a kick out of bringing havoc on others. Although the HOA started off well-meaning, the few grumpy ones scared off the more normal ones and the more timid ones, and the group becomes more aggressive and mean and nobody wants to join. I do not want Wikipedia to collapse, be chaotic, or slowly decay because people give up trying to make it better. I don't want trolls to get their way; I consider the mean-spirited Wikipedians to not be Wikipedians, but more like a cancerous growth, invading sections of Wiki that were once nice, and I want everyone to stop taking the back seat. Stand up for well-intentioned people that are getting bullied. It is easier to teach someone how to Wiki than to try to teach them to put their hearts in the right place. I want the good people to stay, to grow, to improve Wikipedia. I hope to be a small part of the positive force that continuously helps Wiki, polishes it, makes it shine. I think to keep in a positive direction, it would help if Wikipedians treat other Wikipedians as they themselves wish to be treated, and try to keep in mind that we are here to build and shape things, not to destroy and crush the spirit of others.

Good articles that go into more detail on these things include Assuming Good Faith, Being Civil Towards One Another, Neutral Point of View and a Note On Vandalism.

Main activities and areas of interest

I mainly do:

  • Verification of referenced sources/works cited: Ensuring links are functional and from a reputable source and that quoted portions are done so in the correct context
  • Fixing spelling errors/ grammatical errors/typos
  • Adding, changing, or removing of categories/subcategories
  • Requesting clarification of incoherent portions of an article

I mainly do:

  • Fixing problematic format
  • Fixing layout of the page for picture-balance

I strive for accuracy, but if I make a mistake, please revert (if you wish and it is appropriate), and drop me a message in my talk page so I know you consider it a mistake and can improve my edits in the future. It is always my intent to improve Wikipedia.
