Typhoon Keith was the twenty-seventh named storm, seventeenth typhoon, and tenth super typhoon of the active 1997 Pacific typhoon season, and the seventh typhoon of the season that reached Category 5 status ( Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale) and the eighth typhoon to have winds of 110 knots (ten-minute sustained JMA) or greater during the season, a record number of significant typhoons.
