The Bell Library is hosting an edit-a-thon focused on developing Wikipedia articles around key figures and moments in Hispanic history and civil rights. Students, Faculty, Staff and community members of all experience levels are encouraged to participate! Chat with editors, librarians, and scholars, and contribute your knowledge. Reference materials, lunch and editing help provided. Bring your laptop, power cord, and ideas for entries that need updating or creation.

Event details

  • Who: TAMUCC Faculty, students, and staff are invited to this panel discussion and edit-a-thon event.
  • What: This edit-a-thon will begin with a panel discussion on the significance of Wikipedia and the under representation of Hispanic cultures in public history projects, and will move into an edit-a-thon where we'll be creating articles, improving citations, and adding details about Hector P. Garcia, Clotilde Pérez García, the American GI Forum, the League of United Latin American Citizens, and whatever else interests you! University librarians will be on hand to assist in research and proper citation style. This event is FREE and refreshments will be provided.
  • When: Thursday, October 11, 2018
  • Time: 12-4 PM CST
  • Where:
    • The Panel will take place on the 2nd floor of Bell Library, in front of Special Collections
    • The edit-a-thon will be held in room 208 in Bell Library.
  • Other: Please bring your own laptop, if possible. Wifi and electrical outlets will be provided. There will also be a limited number of laptops available for checkout. It is recommended that you create a Wikipedia account beforehand since Wikipedia has a limit on the number of accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period (currently 6). Please send a message to Bell.Library@tamucc.edu if you have any questions regarding creating an account.

Come by room 208 in the Library on the first Tuesday of every month between 1pm and 2pm or the third Wednesday of every month between 10am and 11am if you need help setting up an account or want to learn more about editing and creating information in Wikipedia!
