University of South Carolina

Why did you change the type of institution in the infobox from Flagship state university to Public university? University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Missouri–Columbia all are similar institutions and list it that way. I'm not sure what you mean by this, since I only deleted 106 bytes (less than 3½% of the article) from it. I deleted the empty mine disaster heading, not because it's unsuitable for inclusion (it definitely is), but because it was an empty header. Map sizes

Why reduce the sizes of the maps? They're no bigger than doton maps for municipality articles, and the dots aren't quite as easy to see on the smaller size. Nyttend 15:25, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

In the last paragraph of the section about the main areas of town, there is a reference to CR 707, "Indian River River". I am assuming that this is a goof of some sort, although I am not sure of the correct name of the road. (Is it Indian River Road?) You seem to be somewhat familiar with the area; could you fix that? about National Historic District not a valid term

Hi, I received your question RE why I removed the term "National Historic District" from an article. I did so because "National Historic District" is not an official term recognized by the National Park Service or in any Federal sources that I am aware of. You mention it shows up in google search, but I do not see any U.S. official sites in the google search I just ran. Its use in various local commercial or nonprofit webpages like [www.bentonsport.com/ Bentonsport] or Aurora Colony does not adequately support using it in wikipedia, IMHO. The use in those local webpages is incorrect and tends to show their authors' lack of knowledge about what their own district is, IMO. I have edited the disambiguation page entry for National Historic District to provide alternatives. Some may use "National Historic District" when perhaps what they refer to is a historic district that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Again, it is my belief that there is no official term "National Historic District". To underscore that, consider that there is no list of "National Historic Districts" in wikipedia or anywhere else, I believe. Hope this is helpful; I am trying to be definitive not argumentative. I do appreciate your challenge. If you could suggest where/how I should convey this view more appropriately, I would appreciate that also. doncram 14:32, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

about List of former Christian Science churches, societies and buildings

Hi Clariosophic, I always appreciate your desire to establish a balanced POV in the articles on Christian Science. Because of this, I was surprised by the negative thrust of this page. The main purpose appears to be an attempt to document a decrease in membership in the Christian Science church. As you have noted yourself, it is difficult to get any definitive membership numbers and the status of church buildings do not necessarily verify the status of the membership numbers of the churches. I was also surprised that areas of growth in the CS populations have not been included, lists of new churches in Africa and indication of church progress as exemplified by the recent increase in CS practitioners.

In the area where I live, the Roman Catholic church has sold numerous church buildings. I do not believe one could draw any sound statistics on membership from this action, either. As population centers change there is often a need to relocate services.

There are other things that might be of interest to Wikipedia users about former and current Christian Science buildings that could be more verifiable. Might you consider changing the thrust of the article to highlight CS buildings of architectural interest? Or look for other means to bring balance to the article? Henry Benjamin Whipple & Henry B. Whipple duplicate articles on same bishop

The text is unsourced but not obviously outrageous. At this stage, I'd cut and paste the text from one into the other wholesale. Then, do a minor amount of clean-up. I wouldn't worry about the lack of references but I wouldn't waste time weaving unsourced text. Looking at it now, I'd cheat and make the text in Henry Benjamin Whipple the lead and the text in Henry B. Whipple the body as it is more extensive. Crude but quick and effective. List of Registered Historic Places in Framingham, Massachusetts

I have no issue with you standardizing the format, I have been doing the same with fast food articles. Please forgive me as I am a little possessive of these articles because of all the work I did on them (I created all of the sub articles for Framingham). Please don't be offended, but I am going to move the content back to the original title though as that I have some plans for the article to expand it beyond the list stage. I will be adding to its historical structure at some point, adding text and a brief history of each place where appropriate, just a lot on the plate.

Thanks for your message. I have family in the cemetery at St. Luke's, but hadn't ever really looked at the article. I have worked regularily on some others related to the communtity around it. I'll put it on my list. BTW, noting thayt you have a USC connection, you might be interested in the work I have done relating to the recent fire. After some discussion, we reached some consensus that any mention in WP would probably be best in the article for Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, and that's where it it. RHP infoboxes

All the NRHP articles I've created or seen (and that's a lot) have kept that stuff short and sweet. The infobox hed should have the title of the property by its commonly-used name and nothing else ... no disambiguation term (that's in the location field) and no information not relevant to its status as a historic place (i.e., no info about church denomination or parish. I suppose we should have a church infobox; I do see the need). Take a look, for instance, at these articles about a commonly-used building name: "U.S. Post Office", that I created, in Poughkeepsie, Hyde Park and Rhinebeck. I didn't put the locality in the hed for any of them. Stuffs it up too much. Have you seen any other project where the infobox heds include that many line breaks? It looks sloppy IMO.

Granted, we don't have project guidelines on this yet (I think we should). But this seems to have been common practice within WP:NRHP so far. If you feel we could handle this differently, start a thread on the talk page. Daniel Case ( talk) 21:23, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

I thought it was sort of common practice to limit the stub tags to two (of course, we could expand the article to the point where a stub is no longer necessary). Feel free to add the Anglicanism stub back if you want and feel it would get people to improve the article.

As for the picture, you're welcome. When I saw the article had been created, I jumped it forward from deep in my queue of pictures to upload and (often) RHP articles to create.

I have argued elsewhere that we need to have a "listed_as" parameter in the infobox so that we can account for properties listed under a name other than the one they're currently generally known as ( Wappingers Falls Village Hall is named as such because the USPS has built another post office nearby, which is not a historic property (at least not now). Another editor I work with insists that we should use the NRHP name in the infobox hed regardless of how we title the article. This needs to be resolved. Hopefully when I have uploaded all the pictures I've accumulated this year and created the corresponding articles this winter, I can then turn my attention to this. I added some stuff from the NRHP nom into this article (I didn't know Richard Upjohn was the architect! That's a big deal!) In the process I again reverted the infobox hed. Poughkeepsie is part of neither the church's official name nor its NRHP listing (which, given the NPS's near-total lack of naming conventions, isn't so bad: Church of the Holy Comforter (Anglican)). It's already in bigger letters in the article title, and linked down in the infobox itself. And again, I don't know of any other project here where the geographical dab term is used in infobox titles (A long time ago, I had the infobox for Slide Mountain (Ulster County, New York) use (New York) when the state alone was the dab term. Someone removed that without comment. I'd link to the diff but it's hard to find now since the mountain infobox has been changed). External links

That section is for links that lead outside of Wikipedia. The portal is, of course, a part of Wikipedia. I imagine the link could be moved to a See also section, but a portal link typicaly goes at the top of the article or directly after the info box.

I also have been thinking about starting an ECUSA work group, as we all agreed it could not merit a full Wikiproject. Are you intrested in joing such a workg group?

I don't see your recent edits to the above as improving. Rather they seem to complicate it. Christ Church Grammar School for instance is not a church. You are changing format that is used for most POWdis pages. Oooh, I am so sorry! Of course, you're right, we'll have to move that one! My mistake. Thanks for not reverting...I'd much rather work together with someone who cares about the page. I did put the Grammar School link under Educational Institutions, rather than churches, although you may have looked at an intermediate edit, so that should solve that one. I haven't worked on POWdis pages before, although I have done lots of regular dab pages, so please let me know how else you think this could be improved. My reason for the changes to begin with was that the page was far too long and unwieldy and contained too many red links. I also am trying to improve the related pages Christchurch (disambiguation) and Christ Church Cathedral, although I haven't done much to those yet. Do you have much experience with the POWdis pages? OK, most of that sounds great, but here are my questions...First, this doesn't really seem to follow the guidelines for disambig pages, which are supposed to be used for navigation of existing articles, not as lists of articles that need to be created. In my opinion, those churches on the NR should be included in the list articles as red links, but should only be on the dab page if an article currently exists, or the church is mentioned in an existing article (such as Springfield, Missouri). This is the way I understand the current disambiguation page guidelines. I think the long list of U.S. state name headings is unnecessary, but basically harmless, so I don't mind if those are put back. Secondly, keeping the POWdis tag on the Christ Church page isn't really accurate since it (currently) contains five non-church entries. You said the geographical entries should be on a separate page, but what would you call it? And how would the user find it? I'm a fan of clarity, and my preference would be that there be one dab page for everything known as "Christ Church" and another dab page for everything known as "Christchurch" with no overlap (except for cross links in "See also"). Of course, we also have Christ Church Cathedral to deal with...but that's probably another day. SlackerMom 21:55, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Christchurch (disambiguation) is really the geographical one. It is in the Se also section in this article. If you want to keep this one just for POWs, then let's move all the schools, hospitals, etc., to the other. Just remember that some of them are related. The civil parish in Barbados also has a church by that name in it. Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford is located on the campus of Christ Church College and is its chapel.

I understand what you're saying on policies, however, you're running into conflicts with policies and/or practices from other projects such as the NR. See List of Registered Historic Places in the District of Columbia again, which is typical of the NR lists. You'll see plenty of red. This is where the articles come from. Look at Church of the Ascension and you'll see blue.. You would think there is an article on the church in D.C., but there isn't. It's a link to the POWdis page. The task of going back and correcting every single link link that in all the NR lists would be monumental and won't probably be strongly opposed. Usually when a real article is created, they want you to pipe it. I didn't do that at the 2 Christ Churches in DC because that wasn't possible to do with only one listing there. If there had actually only been one, someone would have piped it for. So if I created the article "Church of the Ascension (Washington, D.C.)" and linked it that way in the list article, someone would surely pipe it to "Church of the Ascension (Washington, D.C.)|Church of the Ascension". On the red links in the US, I will change them to black and put a (NR) after each one with at note under the United States section listing as to what that means. Since this church/parish dates from before the revolution, as I understand it, it was started as Anglican and became Episcopal. Is that tpically noted in articles about Parishes anywhere? I was curious if you knew whether this should be moved to "Grace Episcopal Church (Cismont, VA)" since that is how it is listed on the historic registry and is talked about at the church.
