My name is Alex. I used to be this guy, but having Hindu/Arab characters in my user name was annoying. I mostly edit Balkan-related articles but I do edit other articles, so I'm not completely useless.

Languages

I can speak English English, American English and Australian English fluently.

I would be a native speaker of Macedonian (mk-N) but I forgot all big/technical/uncommon words (the ones that aren't borrowed from English).

I am currently learning French.

I could have learned Latin and would be able to understand more Serbian but I can't tolerate declension.

I can understand Aromanian more than I can speak it. I can't write in it because I haven't mastered the main system. The current system uses a cross between the Romanian and Albanian orthographies (which can be annoying). It's actually just the most common of various systems: Some people use the Romanian alphabet (which makes people think it's Romanian) and some people use the Greek alphabet (which makes people think it's Greek). The latter is quite confusing because the Greek alphabet is inadequate for a Latin-derived language (which is why the Romans created the Latin alphabet in the first place).

This user has a near-complete understanding of the International Phonetic Alphabet.

Latin: Can read most Romance languages other than Catalan and Portuguese. Germanic languages other than Dutch are pretty easy as well. Can read Slovenian, Croatian, Czech and Slovak but not so great with Polish. Can also read Turkish and Albanian.

Cyrillic: Complete understanding of Macedonian and Serbian. Can easily read Bulgarian, Belarusian, Ukrainian and Russian. Not good with non- Slavic that use Cyrillic. Created two Cyrillic alphabet variants of my own: /Polish Cyrillic Alphabet and /Aromanian Cyrillic Alphabet.

IPA: Pretty good with Slavic, Romance and Germanic consonant notation. Not so great with vowels.

What is Balkan Fever?

The best solution

Balkan Fever describes what happens when you put Albanians, Aromanians, Bosniaks, Bulgarians, Bunyevs, Carasovans, Croats, Goranis, Greeks, Istro-Romanians, Janyevs, Macedonians, Magyars, Meglenites, Moldovans, Montenegrins, Pomaks, Romanians, Roma, Serbs, Slovenes, Shoks, Torbesh and Turks on a peninsula. Similar to Cabin fever and Cabin Fever. Not similar to Saturday Night Fever.

A pretty good example

I award this medal to BalkanFever for his informed and informative contributions to Balkan-related topics and his effort to always stand close to and defend the TRUTH. Although we are on opposite POVs - Macedonian and Bulgarian − it is hard not to notice BalkanFever's neutrality. Lantonov ( talk) 06:36, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
