Mausoleum of Babaji Khatun (Kazakh: Babazhy Katyn KesenesіBabazhy Katyn Kesenesi) - a 12th century mausoleum located in the village of Aisha-bibi, Zhambyl district, Zhambyl oblast of Kazakhstan, 18 km from Taraz city. The author and builders are unknown. Since 1982, is under the protection of the state.
Story
The legend about the construction of the Babaji Khatun mausoleum is directly connected with the legend about the construction of the Aisha-Bibi mausoleum. There are 28 different versions of this legend. According to the most common - Aisha-bibi was the daughter of a well-known XI century scholar and poet Hakim Suleiman Bakyrgani. After his death, she was brought up by Sheik Aikozhi. Once the ruler of Taraz Karakhan Mohammed (in whose honor the mausoleum of Karakhan was erected in Taraz) asked for her hand, but her teacher did not give consent. Then she fraudulently went to Taraz. Unfortunately, her fiancé was never able to see her again, since she died on the bank of the river Asa from a snake bite hidden in a headdress. Grieving over the death of the girl, Karakhan erected a mausoleum of fabulous beauty at the place of her death. The fellow traveler Aisha-bibi Babaji Khatun became the guardian of the mausoleum and after death was buried 20 steps from Aisha-Bibi in the mausoleum Babaji Khatun.

The Babaji Khatun Mausoleum has an almost cubic shape, its dimensions are 6.9 x 6.9 × 5.0 m, the wall thickness reaches 1.23 m. It was built of light burnt brick with dimensions of 25 x 25 x 4.5 cm. The architectural composition is simple. Three facades of the building (except the western one) are decorated with niches and medallions. The main facade differs from the side only in the presence of the parapet. On the parapet of the main facade there is an inscription in Arabic: "This is the tomb called Babaji Khatun ... its builder ...".
The planes of the walls of the facades are decorated with false arched windows and niches. Above the windows lined with circles of brick, made curly masonry. Decorative niches and medallions are enclosed in a frame in the shape of the letter “P” from a rectangular groove made in a masonry wall. Above the frame is a jagged horizontal strip, formed by double bricks, turned corners to the outer wall. The same lanes run around the top of the parapet and the drum on which the dome rests. The transition from the walls to the octahedron and the dome is disguised with thromps. The building of the mausoleum is crowned with a faceted drum, which served as the basis for a 16-rib conical dome, which has not survived to the present day.
