Kim Hyo-yeon (born September 22, 1989), better known by her stage name Hyoyeon is a South Korean singer. She is a member of Korean girl group, Girls' Generation and is known to be the main dancer in the band. She made her debut as a singer on August 5, 2007 along with the band.

Biography

Hyoyeon was born in Incheon, South Korea on September 22, 1989, growing up with her parents and her younger brother.

She auditioned at the SM Casting System in 2000 and was trained for 6 years and one month, acknowledged as SM Town's best dancing trainee.[ citation needed] Hyoyeon enrolled in Winners Dance School, which specializes in popping, locking, animation, and various other hip-hop styles, before her training in SM. She has received training from BlackBeat JaeWon (also one of Girls' Generation's choreographers), Popping Hyun Joon and The Grace Stephanie along with the Winners dance teachers.

In 2004, she was sent to study Mandarin Chinese in Beijing, China alongside with Siwon of Korean boy group Super Junior.

She is ambidextrous.[ citation needed]

Presumably, Hyoyeon formal dance training started with Latin dancing and her teacher introduced her to Winners Dance School. She has also mentioned studying jazz and ballet.[ citation needed]

She performed in the duo Little Winners with JYP Entertainment trainee Lee Min-young. Little Winners was spotlighted in 2004 by HipHoper.com.[ citation needed]

She was BoA's silhouette dancer during a performance at M.net KM Music Festival 2005. [1]

Her most recognized dance performance is probably the pre-debut collaboration with Shim Jae-won to "Anonymous" by Bobby Valentino.[ citation needed]

She received dance instruction from the Electric Boogaloos, [2] choreographers[ who?] who have worked with Justin Timberlake and Lee Hyori (Kim Hye-rang who guested on "Star King" [12.13.2008]), and choreography from Shim Jae-won (UCC Story).[ citation needed]

On March 7, 2010 she played a cameo role on SBS " Oh My Lady!" starring Choi Siwon and Chae Rim with Girls' Generation members Jessica and Sooyoung. [3]
