Freedom ATM Alliance
The Freedom ATM Alliance was created as a way for smaller local banks to compete with the larger banks that have an ATM on each corner. This network allowed for customers of the smaller banks to gain surcharge free access to many ATMs without having to switch banks. The need for this network was only realized in the late 90's and early 2000's as laws changed to allow things such as double charges(the ATM charges you and so does your bank) January 6th, 2002 Freedom ATM Alliance started it's operations. The alliance was created and is maintained by Dollar Bank with the support of other competitors such as Brentwood Savings Bank, Northwest Savings Bank, ESB Bank, and BankPittsburgh(Later to be purchased by First Commonwealth)
The Freedom ATM Alliance is based in Pittsburgh(or Southwest Pennsylvania). However, It reaches communities around the area and even as far as Central Pennsylvania. The alliance eliminates the extra cost of being double billed for withdrawing your money from an ATM(the ATM does not charge you a surcharge)
