Of the Kyushu Shinkansen as a maintenance Shinkansen, it corresponds to the section called the "Kagoshima route" (Kagoshima route), and is simply referred to as the "Kyushu Shinkansen" for passengers.

Overview

In 1972 (Showa 47th year), it was announced by the "Basic Plan to Determine the Routes of Shinkansen Railways to Start Construction" pursuant to the provisions of Article 4, Paragraph 1 of the National Shinkansen Railway Development Law, and on Nov 13, 1973 (Showa 48th year) It is one of the five lines (so-called maintenance Shinkansen) whose maintenance plan was decided. Construction was temporarily suspended due to the financial deterioration of the Japanese National Railways, but in 1991 (Heisei 3rd year), the construction of the Yashiro-Nishi Kagoshima (currently Kagoshima Chuo) section was started by the super express system. After that, the starting point was changed to Shin-Yachishiro, and in 1998 Shin-Yachishiro Station-Funagoya Signal Station (currently Chikugo-Funagoya Station) started construction by the super express system, and Hakata Station-Funagoya Signal Station remaining in 2000 (2000) Construction started, and at the same time, all sections were fully standardized. In March 2004, the section between Shin-Yatsushiro Station and Kagoshima Chuo Station opened with full standards. In addition, by connecting to Hakata Station-Shin-Yatsushiro Station on the same platform as the conventional limited express "Relay Tsubame", the time required between Hakata Station and Kagoshima Chuo Station has been significantly reduced. After that, the section between Hakata Station and Shin-Yatsushiro Station opened in March 2011, and the Kyushu Shinkansen (Kagoshima route) opened all lines after 38 years since the maintenance plan was decided, and at the same time, direct operation with the Sanyo Shinkansen started. The Railway Construction and Transportation Facility Development Support Organization constructs and owns railway facilities and is operated by Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu).
