In the Saw series, cancer patient John Kramer (a.k.a Jigsaw) teaches others to appreciate life in gruesome ways by capturing his unwilling subjects, and making them play "games of life or death". The idea of these games is simple: if you lose, you lose the life you are unfit to live. If you win, you learn how to appreciate life and savour every moment. Although all of these games can be won, few players have survived due to Jigsaws games usually involving sacrifice or self-mutilation. The games are usually ironic, for example having to crawl through a maze of razor-wire becaue you slit your wrists.

Players from Saw

Paul

Reason picked: Slit his wrists even though he was a perfectly healthy, sane, middle-class man.

Game: The Razor-wire maze - Paul was placed in a basement and surrounded by razor-wire. The door to the basement was open but on a timer set to lock after two hours. He had to navigate his way through the maze to find a way out before the timer on the door expired.

Result: Failiure - Paul was unable to find a way out in time, resulting in going crazy and mutilating himself so badly on the razor-wire that he left traces of stomach acid on the floor.

Mark

Reason picked: Was a con-artist pretending to be ill, lying to his family and friends to get money and sympathy.

Game: The Flammable Jelly - Mark was stripped to his boxers, poisoned, smeared with a flammable jelly and placed in a room with a safe surrounded by broken glass. In the safe was the antidote to his poison and the combination to the safe was written amongst hundreds of others on the walls and ceiling. Mark's only source of light in the room was a small candle.

Result: Failiure - Mark slipped and the candle touched the jelly, burning him alive.

Amanda Young

Reason picked: Tried to kill herself by overdosing on heroin.

Game: The Reverse Beartrap - Amanda was placed in a device
