NightMoves Adult Entertainment Awards" ...
NightMoves Magazine hosted their very first Awards show in 1992 in Tampa Florida. Paul Allen, the publisher of NightMoves Magazine envisioned an event where competing owners of adult establishments could "get along" one night a year to celebrate positive contributions to the local Adult Industry. Stingers, a local, non adult nightclub was the location of what would become the third oldest adult award show in the country. The hosts for the evening were adult actress Kelly O'dell and legendary Ron Jeremy. By a stroke of luck, both Kelly and Ron were in town for a bookstore signing at XTC Supercenter. Paul invited them to stay one more day and attend the award show the very next night as his special guests and emcees for the evening. Since that show Ron Jeremy has attended EVERY show.
NightMoves Magazine had inserted a ballot in the June, July and August issues and readers were encouraged to vote for their favorite adult businesses, entertainers and models. After 90 days of voting the show was scheduled for September XX.
As luck would have it, on the night of the first NightMoves Awards Ceremony the weather provided an enormous thunderstorm and Paul just knew that absolutely no one would brave the storm for a first time event that some said "would never work". Just one hour before the show was to begin, he ventured to take a look outside the front door to see if anyone was going to show. To his surprise he witnessed one of the most memorable moments of his life. Outside, in the pouring rain, were hundreds of umbrella toting, evening gown & tuxedo wearing, super excited people standing in line waiting for the doors to open. Limousines were staged, waiting to drop their passengers as close to the front doors as possible to avoid getting drenched.
The actual show lasted approximately three hours. Local entertainers that included burlesque acts, female impersonators and feature performances were peppered between more than 20 local awards. Originally there weren't any national awards and local categories included Best Nude Club, Best Nude Dancer, Best Video/Bookstore, Best Adult Toy Selection and more. National awards were added in 199X and there were only 6.
After the success of the first NightMoves show, word spread and Paul enlisted Dirty Bob to help book performers for the next year's show. The second year, to help pay for travel and hotel for the invited XXX Performers, Paul added autograph signings scheduled for three days before the show. The "Caravan of Stars" visited local adult bookstores, theaters and clubs meeting fans and signing autographs. The performers were split into 5 groups and toured more than 15 locations throughout the weekend; this format continued for several years. Over time fan voting exploded and at that time all voting was done by paper ballots and "stuffed" into ballot boxes distributed in clubs, bookstores, lingerie shops throughout the Tampa Bay area. Thousands upon thousands of ballots were delivered to the NightMoves office in these ballot boxes. With the advancement of the Internet online voting became possible in 199X.
THE INFAMOUS POOL PARTY IS BORN - The highlight of the weekend became the invitation only pool party held at Paul and Tracy's home.
