Anthony Jackson, (August 1976 - March 30, 2022) better known by his artist pseudonym of AJ Crimson, was a renowned make-up artist, Movie Makeup Designer, and entrepreneur. As stated by Buzzfeed reporter Ade Onibada, “Crimson was one of the only Black men with 100% ownership of his own high-quality line of makeup” centered principally on women of color.
AJ Crimson was born in Detroit and attended private school.
Of his own interest in the arts and all things beautiful he said: “I love beautiful things, people, fashion, architecture. The beauty industry sort of found me; I thought I’d be in politics, public speaking or artist management, which are all passions of mine [and] have been involved in, but beauty has taken me all over the world in a very interesting way.”
While interning for the Artistic Director of a major record label affiliated with Motown records, his attention was drawn to the MAC brand of luxury cosmetics, and he soon thereafter found himself working in a Detroit area MAC retail location where he was given the opportunity to develop his skills in makeup artistry
As a Movie Makeup Artist, his responsibilities generally involved the expert application of makeup products on the faces, and in certain cases, the bodies and extremities of actors and performers in order to create a specific look or effect for a given character. or to create AJ Crimson's work include use of prosthetics to develop a specified look.
On Wednesday, March 30, 2022, AJ Crimson died in a swimming accident while vacationing in Aruba.
