![]() | Evaluate an article
Complete your article evaluation below. Here are the key aspects to consider: Lead sectionA good lead section defines the topic and provides a concise overview. A reader who just wants to identify the topic can read the first sentence. A reader who wants a very brief overview of the most important things about it can read the first paragraph. A reader who wants a quick overview can read the whole lead section.
ContentA good Wikipedia article should cover all the important aspects of a topic, without putting too much weight on one part while neglecting another.
Tone and BalanceWikipedia articles should be written from a neutral point of view; if there are substantial differences of interpretation or controversies among published, reliable sources, those views should be described as fairly as possible.
Sources and ReferencesA Wikipedia article should be based on the best sources available for the topic at hand. When possible, this means academic and peer-reviewed publications or scholarly books.
Organization and writing qualityThe writing should be clear and professional, the content should be organized sensibly into sections.
Images and Media
Talk page discussionThe article's talk page — and any discussions among other Wikipedia editors that have been taking place there — can be a useful window into the state of an article, and might help you focus on important aspects that you didn't think of.
Overall impressions
Examples of good feedbackA good article evaluation can take a number of forms. The most essential things are to clearly identify the biggest shortcomings, and provide specific guidance on how the article can be improved. |
Having lived in Catalunya, and having a rudimentary grasp of the language, I have some knowledge on the subject.
Lead: The lead is well written, providing a concise depiction of what the Catalan language is, and placing it in proper context in the world. The lead could do a better job of outlining the major sections that will be covered later in the article. The lead stays relevant and doesn't include unrelated information.
Content:
Content stays true to the mark, relaying the history and related languages to Catalan. This article deals with an underrepresented minority, in the Catalan people, who have been systematically oppressed by the Spanish central government. This article fails to address the use of definite articles before peoples' names, in Catalan.
Tone and Balance:
Article does a good job of remaining politically neutral, while relaying Catalan language history. Information is up to date and article appears to be regularly updated.
References:
Article's references are thorough and many, and links function. More information could be linked to regarding Franco's suppression of the Catalan language.
Organization and Writing Quality:
That is the strength of this article; that it is well written and concise, without straying from the central information being conveyed. No spelling errors.
Images and Media:
More images showing the different regions where Catalan dialects are spoken would be appropriate. What does exist is well captioned and labelled.
Talk Page:
Interesting conversations occurring on the Talk page, most of it quite erudite, and using linguistic terminology that I am unfamiliar with. We haven't specifically discussed the Catalan language in class, although the use of the terms "dialect" versus "language" are not used in the sense we were taught to use them in.
Overall Impressions:
A B-Class article, that requires more detail regarding the political underpinnings of the evolution and dispersal of the Catalan language. Despite this, it is a well developed article, appearing to ver away from politics and stick with discussion of pure linguistic structure.
