HP Cloud Services (HPCS) is a public cloud service from Hewlett-Packard (HP) that offers compute, storage and Content Delivery Network (CDN) services that are accessible via the public Internet. HP has built its cloud infrastructure using OpenStack™ technology [1] .
HP Cloud Services was announced on March 14, 2011, and launched as a public beta on May 10, 2012. HP Cloud Object Storage and HP Cloud CDN were moved into general availability on August 1, 2012.
HPCS is the public cloud component of HP's converged cloud [2] strategy. HP's Converged Cloud encompasses private cloud, managed cloud and public cloud services [3] HP CloudSystem is cloud infrastructure that combines storage, servers, networking and software.
HP Cloud Services consist of:
HP provides access to their public cloud services through APIs [4] command line interfaces (CLIs) and a web based management console. Additionally, several open source language bindings [5] are also available:
HP Cloud Services has created a Cloud Partner Ecosystem [6] that enables partners to provide services that use the HPCS infrastructure. The Solution Partners program is designed to help Solution Partners enhance their cloud offering and increase exposure to new customers and markets. Solution Partners offer software, applications and cloud services on top of and/or integrated with HP Cloud Services. The program consists of a set of tools, best practices, documentation, and support.
Solution partners such as Platform as a Service ( PaaS) and Software as a Service ( SaaS) vendors provide cloud based web services including:
There is also a pilot program for consulting partners made up of Value-Added Resellers (VARS), Systems Integrators (SIs) and consulting firms.
