In India, wastewater treatment regulations come under various water and sanitation policies. State governments and local municipalities hold responsibility for the disposal of sewage and construction and maintenance of "sewerage infrastructure." Through the Ministry of Environment and Forest, India's government has set-up incentives that encourage industries to start "common facilities" to treat wastewater.
