Sumeet Gulati was born on September 27, 1976 at Makhani nursing home in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. He is the son of Virendra and Shashi Gulati and the youngest child with two older sisters, Sumedha and Suparna. Sumeet grew up in financially humble circumstances that kept his family close together. Matters of eternity were never part of dinner time conversation. Growing up in an Arya Samaj Hindu background, Sumeet's understanding of God revolved around God being this abstract reality that one discovers as they grow in life.
At the age of 20, Sumeet became financially independent and started to become arrogant and struggled with his relationships. He felt that he was the king of the world, only to realize that the King of the universe was starting to slid the earth beneath his feet. One day, in October 1999, while coming back home on a charterd bus, Sumeet was invited to a youth group of youn adults and also some children, by his now good friend Sanjiv Bhatia. Sumeet went to this youth group with a desire to play one of his favorite sport
Cricket. After play, the group had a small get together of all the children and it was here that Sumeet first ever saw and heard a passage from the
Bible. The lady at the youth group was reading the parable of the
lost Coin and comparing the joy of God finding a lost child to be similar to this old lady in finding a coin after she has turned her house upside-down. This confused Sumeet's understanding of an abstract
God. Sumeet started to read the
Bible along with the hindu scripture the
Bhagavad Gita. He enjoyed reading the
Bhagavad Gita as it addressed, in Sumeet's opinion, his questions about the universe and his own role in it. The
Bible was not of much interest to him. It was later that Sumeet realized that while he was reading the
Bhagavad Gita, the
Bible was reading him and telling him about his own self. Ever since growing up Sumeet had the desire to know what was wrong with this world and wanted to commit his life to it. At one point also desired becoming an
environmentalist to heal the planet earth, a desire he still carries. The
Bible convicted Sumeet that what was wrong with the world was within him. It was then that Sumeet was broken from his abstract understanding about God and found God breathing down his neck. It was then that Sumeet came to accept the truth about needing a
savior in
Jesus Christ. Since then, according to Sumeet, God has been sanctifying him with
Truth as revealed in the
Christian
scripture and believed by Sumeet with this
scripture proving True with his own life experiences. Sumeet also believes that this explanation about himself is his personal testimony and is based on his own understanding about himself and about
God as revealed to him by
God.
Currently, Sumeet Gulati resides in
Hyderabad,
Andhra Pradesh,
India and continues to walk on the bridge of faith in his journey with God.
