The lead section of this article is very robust, the body paragraphs of original article seem to need most work. Including examples throughout history is a good start, but critiques section desperately needs expansion or to be removed.
Another body paragraph that could be added is the research by political scientists into the concept of civic nationalism ( look at nationalism page for reference)
All the additions of historical examples should probably need references when discussing them. Not sure what the policy on citations is in that scenario.
