Neil Wrigley FBA, FAcSS, DSc, PhD (b. 27 March 1948) [1] is Professor of Human Geography and former Head of Department at the Department of Geography and Environment, University of Southampton. He was elected to the highly-prestigious Fellowship of The British Academy (FBA) in 2012, and previously as Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences (2004). He has held a number of prominent positions in Geography, urban planning and Social Science in general. He was previously Head of The School of City and Regional Planning (formerly The School of City and Regional Planning, University of Wales, Cardiff [2], Reader in Geography at the University of Bristol and a Committee Member of the UK Economic and Social Research Council.
Neil's research focuses on Economic Geography – in particular, retail and consumption. [3]He is noted as a leading editor of academic journals, editing the flagship journal of UK Geography – Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers (1988-1993), and from 2001-2014, he was the Founding Editor of the world-class cross-disciplinary Journal of Economic Geography, published by Oxford University Press [4]. He has also served on the Editorial Boards of several leading international journals –Environment and Planning A [5], Regional Studies [6], Contemporary Social Science [7]published by Taylor & Francis, and several retail-management journals.
