![]() | Evaluate an article
Complete your article evaluation below. Here are the key aspects to consider: Lead sectionA good lead section defines the topic and provides a concise overview. A reader who just wants to identify the topic can read the first sentence. A reader who wants a very brief overview of the most important things about it can read the first paragraph. A reader who wants a quick overview can read the whole lead section.
ContentA good Wikipedia article should cover all the important aspects of a topic, without putting too much weight on one part while neglecting another.
Tone and BalanceWikipedia articles should be written from a neutral point of view; if there are substantial differences of interpretation or controversies among published, reliable sources, those views should be described as fairly as possible.
Sources and ReferencesA Wikipedia article should be based on the best sources available for the topic at hand. When possible, this means academic and peer-reviewed publications or scholarly books.
Organization and writing qualityThe writing should be clear and professional, the content should be organized sensibly into sections.

Talk page discussionThe article's talk page — and any discussions among other Wikipedia editors that have been taking place there — can be a useful window into the state of an article, and might help you focus on important aspects that you didn't think of.
Overall impressions
Examples of good feedbackA good article evaluation can take a number of forms. The most essential things are to clearly identify the biggest shortcomings, and provide specific guidance on how the article can be improved. |
I am evaluating the following article: Hacienda
I chose this article for an article evaluation assignment in my Latinx Literature class. I specifically chose to look at an article about Hacienda, because it is very pertinent to the course material that we are going over in class. In particular, Haciendas are something that are very integral to Latinx history and culture, as they have been prevalent in many countries within the Spanish empire including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, and Peru.
Overall, this article is very well done. It has a solid lead section, giving a brief but detailed overview of what haciendas are and how they operated. It gives examples of different systems based on different locations, which helps give the readers a deeper understanding of the breadth of haciendas. It also dives into the origin of them, explaining the come-about of haciendas. It uses a great variety of sources, that show different perspectives and draw information from many different outlets. This helps add to the credibility of the article. For the available links, most of them appear to work, though there are many sources that are not linked in the first place, which is one fault. The overall tone of the article seems very objective and straightforward. There doesn't seem to be a bias in the way that haciendas are interpreted. The content of the article is well-versed at describing haciendas at a more in-depth level and even has some long paragraphs about key haciendas in the past. The article could possibly be improved by adding more links to all the sources used and by adding more content to different aspects of haciendas. Overall though, it is a great article.
