My ideas for the future Wikipedia developement Information

Infrastructure

A distributed Wikipedia

Having funddrives every 6 months or so imposes a factual (substantial) fee on devoted wikipedians. Does this have to be so? Technically it could be difficult right now to implement a distributed version of wikipedia, which could be hosted by Universities, govermental sites etc. for free. However, this seems to me the only way to garuantee stability, robustness and cost effectiveness of the whole wiki-efforts. This is, where IMO the prime focus of software development should lie.

Content

Levels of detail

Wikipedia articles vary largely in size and mature article can be huge and cumbersome to read. I propose a new markup (or similar means) that indicates a level of detail for a paragraph that could ultimately allow for making articles uniform in their level of detail at your discretion.

References

Wikipedia needs to store a text version of referenced web-sites/pdfs. Contrary to common folklore the web does forget fast.

Possible workaround: Referenced web resources should be submitted to archive.org
