Overview

The Web Marketing Association is the producer of the WebAward Competition. Now in its 17th year, the WebAward program is the longest running annual website award competition dedicated to naming the best Web sites in 96 industries while setting the standard of excellence for all website development.

One of the features of the WebAward Competition is that participants receive feedback in the form of the average scores on each of the seven judging criteria for their Web site as well as your final score. Specific Judges comments are also sometimes included

WebAwards are granted at three levels. Sites that receive the highest average score from the judges within a given industry category are awarded a "Best of Industry" WebAward and will receive a personalized WebAward statue to commemorate the achievement. Remaining sites will then be judged against a standard of overall excellence and quality for either an Outstanding WebAward or Standard of Excellence WebAward based upon the total score given to the entry by the WebAward judges. These winners will receive a personalized certificate of achievement. One site will be recognized as Best of Show and receive a special edition WebAward statue.

https://www.webaward.org/top_agency.asp It’s great to have an award winning website. It’s even more impressive to create a whole slew of award winning websites. The Top Agency Award recognizes the organization who wins the most WebAwards in a single competition.

Industry Categories

See the industry categories page for a complete industry category listing. Currently there are 96 industry categories representing a broad range of options for participants. Nominators may enter web sites in multiple categories if appropriate. The Web Marketing Association reserves the right to add or eliminate categories during the competition. The industry categories are intentionally broad based to accommodate the majority of websites developed today. https://www.webaward.org/guidelines.asp https://www.webaward.org/industry_categories.asp

Judging

Each site is assigned to three or more expert judges for evaluation. The judges are informed of the mission statement and prospective audience for the site and provided a link with password, if needed, to enter and review the site. Judges are not told who submitted the entry or which category it is entered into. They then visit the site starting with the URL provided on the entry form and assume the role of a target user. After reviewing the site, they enter their scoring and record their observations and comments before moving on to the next site. At the conclusion of the judging, the two highest scores are averaged for the final score. Any lower scores are dropped, although the comments are retained and provided to the participants.

Entries will be judged on the following seven criteria on a scale of 0-10 points [3]:

   Design
   Innovation
   Content
   Technology
   Interactivity
   Copywriting
   Ease of use

Judging for the IAC Awards usually takes place in February. Judges consist of a select group of Internet advertising professionals with an in-depth understanding of the current state-of-the-art in Web advertising. Past competition judges have included top executives from leading corporations, institutions and media organizations such as Arc Worldwide, Beeby Clark+Meyler, Brunner Digital, Campbell-Ewald, CNN, Deep Interactive Asia, Digitas, EuroRSCG 4D, Google, IBM Interactive, JWT, Mastercard, McCann Worldgroup, Possible, SapientRazorfish, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Small Army, Tectis GmbH, TMP Worldwide, Universal McCann Interactive and Wunderman / Y&R.

Levels of WebAward Winners

The WebAward entry process is conducted entirely through this website. Websites entered will be judged by a panel of independent Internet experts in such areas as:

   Design
   Interactivity
   Technology
   Content
   Innovation
   Copywriting
Ease of use to target audience

Visit the Judging page to learn about the WebAward judging process.

There are four WebAward award levels:

Each site is judged on each of the seven criteria, earning a score between 0 and 70 points. The highest score in a given category wins Best Web site of that industry.

If the remaining entries receive a score of 60 or greater, they receive the Outstanding Website WebAward.

Entries receive the Standard of Excellence WebAward when their score is above the average of their industry, but below 60 points.

Only one Best Website of each industry will be given (except in the case of a tie). The Outstanding Web Site and Standard of Excellence WebAwards may have multiple winners in each category. If all scores in a particular category are below the standard minimum, no award will be granted for that category.
