Cow Chop is an American comedy video gaming YouTube channel created by James " UberHaxorNova" Wilson and Aleksandr " ImmortalHD" Marchant. The channel was created on February 29, 2016 and their first video was uploaded on April 1, 2016. The name "Cow Chop" is derived from "Couch Co-op", and is due to the fact that they play games cooperatively on a cow-print couch. While their main focus is gaming content, they also produce live action skits, vlogs, and various other non-gaming series. Cow Chop is a part of Rooster Teeth's "Let's Play Family" [1], which includes other channels such as Funhaus and ScrewAttack.

History

Prior to Cow Chop, Wilson and Marchant were members of another video gaming group called "The Creatures". During their time in the group, they garnered a fan base as a pair from their "duo streams", where they would live stream themselves playing games together on The Creatures' Twitch channel. They left The Creatures due to frustrations with the group involving creative direction, which was confirmed in an announcement and Q&A live stream on April 28, 2016. [2] Within a month of uploading their first video, Cow Chop gained over 250,000 subscribers [3] and The Creatures began losing subscribers. [4]

Originally, Cow Chop produced content in The Creatures' office located in Littleton, Colorado, but later moved into a house in which they would use as their workplace. On February 5th of 2017, Cow Chop uploaded a behind the scenes video titled "GETTING KICKED OUT" in which they revealed that they were evicted from the house due to a fan sending one of their videos to their property manager which included a scene involving Brett punching a hole through a door. [5]

Cow Chop had been planning on moving to Los Angeles after their fans reached 500 sign-ups in Rooster Teeth's "First" membership program, but they were evicted before reaching the goal. Due to the sudden eviction, they used James' house to record out of for a few videos. On February 18th, they released a video in which they revealed that they would be using a barn as their workplace until they could move to Los Angeles. On April 9th, they revealed that they were finally moving to Los Angeles where their current office is located. [6]

Content

Cow Chop produces Let's Plays of various games in different continuous series on their channel. They also produce non-gaming series such as "Amazon Prime Time", where they each buy bizarre gifts on Amazon and exchange them. Another series is the "Wrong Side of YouTube", where they insert random words, phrases, or letters into the YouTube search bar and watch whatever videos they come across while filming their reactions. Cow Chop uploads one video daily, but they do not follow a strict upload schedule or order in terms of their different series.
