History

Formation & The Shape of Punk is Dumb EP

Dead American was founded in 2016 by former Saosin lead vocalist Cove Reber and Chad Jordan in Salt Lake City, Utah. Before the formation, while living in Utah, Jordan had recorded instrumental demos which were presented to Reber, who had been introduced to Jordan through a friend. Reber who had been inspired by the demos shown keen interest in tracking vocals over them; this later cemented Rebers position as the lead vocalist. Jordan and Reber decided to leave their residences in Utah and move to Oceanside, California, during this transition, they recruited long time friends drummer Kyle Rosa, bassist Josh Latham and Sleep for Sleepers guitarist Jamie Price [3]

The group began recording of the debut extended play five track (EP) titled The Shape of Punk is Dumb at Rigby Road Studios in Salt Lake City with producer and engineer Joel Pack In early 2017. The title of the EP is derived from the Refused 1998 seminal LP The Shape of Punk to Come. The recording progress of the EP was shared through a compilation of demo appearances on the bands Instagram feed throughout 2018 which garnered them a sizable social media and local following. The demos later surfaced as singles Gravity, Ants and Pawns Out For Blood and Alt Facts. The EP was completed and mastered in the middle of 2018 and was released in October later that year.

The band embarked on a tour as special guests along side Night Verses at the Saosin Holiday Show at The Glass House in Pomona, California shortly after their EP release. [4] and played the Beartooth Disease Tour Part II [5] as well as further shows along side bands Of Mice And Men and Hands Like Houses [6], Lower Definition, Eve 6, The Fall Of Troy, and Night Verses in 2019. In January and February 2020 the band played shows along side Hands Like Houses and Picturesque [7]. In September 2020, Price had decided to leave the band to focus on family commitments. Price was temporarily replaced by guitarist Donn Vedda as touring member who was subsequently permanently replaced by rhythm guitarist Steven Ryan.

New Nostalgia (2020 - Present)

In December 2019, the group entered the studio to record their debut album titled New Nostalgia with record producer Fred Archambault. They joined the content creator platform Patreon [8] where they shared Crowdfunder compilations of the debut albums recording progress. After 18 months of writing and recording they decided to sign to Equal Vision Records partnered label Velocity Records. [9] On December 16, 2021 the band released the first single from their debut album titled Choke. [10] On January 11, 2022 the band released their second single titled Full of Smoke. [11]

Following their album release the band tours the The Velocity Records Tour with bands Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows, Scary Kids Scaring Kids and Secrets. [12]
