Superpower is an award-winning, controversial film that examines the US military-industrial complex about which President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned the public during his 1961 Farewell Address to the nation as he was leaving office. This political and historical documentary film presents a set of motives for the US foreign policy decisions since World War II, from military actions for regime change, to current legislation that is eroding American civil liberties. Viewers of this film will be informed why people in other countries see the US as an aggressor in a quest for global dominance through economic global expansion and military strategy through a review of key moments in America's history, personal interviews, and analysis of US foreign policy.

The heart of Superpower lies in the analysis produced from a re-examination of history through a series of interviews with historians, documentarians, and academians such as William Blum (Bill), Chalmers Johnson, Michel Chossudovsky, and Noam Chomsky, and others with expertise in this subject such as the Executive Producer of The Unit, Command Sergeant (Ret.) Eric Haney; former Chief Economist for the US Department of Labor, Morgan Reynolds; three-time Noble Peace Prize nominee, Kathy Kelly; and Lt. Col. (Ret) Karen Kwiatkowski.

With the fall of the Soviet Union, the US has emerged as the preeminent superpower of the world. Superpower illustrates how the United States has chosen to leverage that position to pursue a grand strategy which will ensure itself unilateral world domination through absolute economic and military superiority. It shows a consistent pattern of government deception. The United States emerged from World War II with its industrial base still intact and the only nation with the atomic bomb. It was without question the most powerful country on earth. What was done with this unprecedented power and how it has effected the world, is the central theme of Superpower.

Awards

Superpower is the winner of Honorable Mention in the 2008 Route 66 Film Festival. In the 2008 August Sun Film & Television Festival Superpower was nominated for Best Feature Documentary, and was nominated for The Grand Peace Award. The director, Barbara-Anne Steegmuller, was the recipient of The Director Award at the 2008 August Sun Film & Television Festival. Superpower was accepted into the 2008 DOK Market Digital in Leipzig, Germany.
