The Young Actors Project

The Young Actors Project is a youth drama program in the Vancouver, BC area started by Leo Award-winning director Robert Randall. The program introduces youth to drama by running in-school workshops at elementary schools throughout the region - including Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, New Westminster, Richmond, Delta, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Maple Ridge, Surrey, Langley, Abbotsford. It also runs private workshops for those interested in pursuing acting further.

Drama has many benefits for kids. Here are some:

  1. Self Confidence: taking risks and performing for an audience enables kids to trust their ideas and abilities.
  2. Imagination: drama challenges kids to make creative choices and exercise their imaginations.
  3. Empathy: portraying different characters in different situations promotes compassion and tolerance.
  4. Cooperation: drama requires participants to work together and collaborate with creative ideas.
  5. Concentration: portraying different characters and playing improv games requires focus of mind, body and voice.
  6. Communication: drama enhances verbal and non-verbal expression.
  7. Problem solving: improv games promote quick thinking.
  8. Fun: drama promotes play, humour, and laughter, and helps reduce stress.
  9. Emotional outlet: drama allows the release of a range of emotions in a safe, controlled environment - reducing anti-social behaviour.
